    Japan Super Rugby team

Over 20k watched a Top League game today between Panasonic and Toshiba. Hopefully the Sunwolves will attract similar crowds for their Tokyo games at least.

    Los Jaguares 2016

Yep, I hadn't really noticed him before the world cup, but thought he had a really good tournament. He's another smaller player (under 90kg's) that just seems to have good balance, skills, decent speed etc. Very solid performer. Just read now that he played in the 7's series in 2012/13 as well.

    Los Jaguares 2016

I hope Cordero has a crack at 7's for the Olympics. I think out of all the top outside backs in rugby at the moment he'd have to be one of the most well suited to 7's. Moroni would be another good one for them.

    Australian Women's Sevens Team

Yeah women's sevens really is such a huge opportunity for rugby and the girls in the team are great ambassadors for the game. I tend to think they should be the Wallaroos 7's and the men's team should be the Wallabies 7's. If it's good enough for the All Blacks then I don't see why we have to...

    HSBC 7's 2015/16: ROUND 1 - DUBAI

They have plenty of big, powerful athletes too and guys with skill. They just need greater technical nous and game management in 15's. If you compared the US 15's team to Japan's player to player, for example, I think you could argue that the US would have the higher ceiling as a team. But...

    HSBC 7's 2015/16: ROUND 1 - DUBAI

Great to see USA kick on from last season. Having them as one of the powers of Sevens will be good for rugby and especially for the Olympic tournament. Mike Friday has done a tremendous job with them. They need to find a similarly transformative coach for their 15's team.

    HSBC 7's 2015/16: ROUND 1 - DUBAI

I'm on the fence for now re the new subs rule. It may not be too bad. It's not a huge difference to begin with, but Sevens doesn't need extra fatigue to open it up. Perhaps having slightly fresher players will mean better skill execution, even faster pace and more consistently good play.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

They're not a minnow but they'd never beaten New Zealand before and yesterday they thrashed them. That may turn out to be a bit of a one off result this year, but it shows what they're capable of and you'd have to say they're a medal threat now at Rio whereas previously they didn't look like...

    Los Jaguares 2016

The J is not quite an H, it's more in the throat - like the ch in German. It's not a sound that exists in English (well, maybe in the ch in the word loch, but most people would just say it like 'lock' because they can't say it properly). You also need to roll the r, which is easier but some...

    Los Jaguares 2016

I like the logo. I wonder if the English speaking commentators will call them the Jaguars or attempt to pronounce Los Jaguares (it's not the easiest Spanish word to pronounce properly)

    HSBC 7's 2015/16: ROUND 1 - DUBAI

Just saw that the women's event was on, decided to check out a game and saw Russia absolutely dominate New Zealand 33-7! Crazy. Didn't see the previous games but they were both upsets too: Fiji 24 Canada 10, Ireland 12 USA 5. These are 3 pretty big surprises. There may be a few more medal...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Interesting news out of Uruguay. From 2016 they are going to sign 7-10 players on central contracts. As they have a handful of guys based in Europe it'll mean the majority of their test team will be professional (or at least semi-pro) from next season. They'll now be playing 12 test matches a...

    Rio Olympics

I'd say Zimbabwe is also a dark horse. They were seconds away from qualifying ahead of Kenya so gotta think they're a contender. Tonga probably a chance as well.

    HSBC 7's 2015/16: ROUND 1 - DUBAI

I reckon Australia might win this. Our guys would have been peaking for that Olympic Qualifier while other teams will probably be a little underdone.

    Japan Super Rugby team

I think there were reports before the world cup (or maybe during it) that they'd signed at least 10 of the world cup squad. Hopefully they've signed most of those primary targets you mentioned.

    Ideas for NRC

Why? I'm saying that it shouldn't happen unless it's externally funded. And I think Fiji and Samoa would be a good drawcard at this level. There's some precedent too, as PNG play in the Queensland Cup in Rugby League. I believe they're funded by the PNG government and private sponsors.

    Ideas for NRC

Yeah I'm happy with just 2 Sydney teams. Hopefully the Stars merge with the Rams (and keep the Rams name). And if there's desire for more teams perhaps the Fiji Warriors and the equivalent Samoan team (local residents only) could be added - obviously they would need to find the funds through a...

    Barbarians v Argentina Saturday 21 November 2015

I think they'll be title contenders but I'd be shocked if they don't lose some games during the season. It's hard to keep winning away games across 3 continents and there are a few teams who will be just as, or nearly as strong on paper. Especially can't see them going undefeated when they tour...

    Barbarians v Argentina Saturday 21 November 2015

Yeah no doubt about that. It's a tough draw, they have a couple of 2 game tours in South Africa as well as 3 weeks in a row in NZ followed by a game in Japan. But they have really good depth in most positions so will be able to rotate their team without much of a drop off. The team that beat...

    Barbarians v Argentina Saturday 21 November 2015

That was one of the strongest looking BaaBaas teams of recent times and Argentina have beaten them pretty convincingly. Some great tries scored. Very loose game as you'd expect but with all 23 of the players involved in this match available for Los Jaguares we can be pretty sure they're going...
