    USA launches professional rugby competition

Well they'd be able to find a fair few athletic Polynesian blokes in SLC! Or easily attract some over from the islands. A lot of Tongans in particular are Mormons.

So RIM aren't invested in it? I know he's set this up with a single entity structure where the league owns all the teams. I just assumed there must have been at least a few other investors. If he hasn't got them already I have little doubt he will. As long as there are multi-millionaires...

    USA launches professional rugby competition

Yeah, and I guess it's possible that some nicknames could develop organically from the season 1 fans. That could be pretty cool, and might give greater strength to the names than deciding on one before the clubs have any real identity. There'd be more of a story behind them.

    USA launches professional rugby competition

I read somewhere that it would be really basic in year 1, and that stuff like team names (and associated branding) would be developed for year 2 with some level of fan involvement. Not sure how true that is though.

Great performance! Surely we'll see more 15's guys put their hand up now. Not that it'll be easy for anyone to get into the side. Huge surprise to see Tonga hammer Samoa to make the final. You'd have to think Canada are now strong favourites to win the repechage.

That's only for a chance to play in the 4 team repechage.

    The Wallabies Thread

Big tour with 2 mid week games as well! I hope 1 is against a tier 2 European team, though I doubt that'll happen. So the Wallabies will play 15 test matches next year, which is quite a lot of rugby. Though there will also be only 15 matches for each Super Rugby team as well (in the regular...

    The Fallout from RWC 2015

Especially when you could have still given all 3 PI teams a chance to make it and left a free spot for an Asian qualifier. Should have been Oceania 1 - automatic qualifier, Oceania 2 - playoff with Europe 2, Oceania 3 - straight to repechage.

    Rio Olympics

Well he's been training in the squad for about a week right? Competing against guys who've been in the program for months or years. He's a gun at 7's, killed it for the Brumbies a couple of years ago when they played in the world club 7's in London. But he's still got to pick up the systems...

    The Fallout from RWC 2015

Well I think it's a joke. An Asian world cup without an Asian qualifier, how ridiculous. Japan making the top 12 this year basically made no difference at all. I'm all for supporting PI rugby, but Oceania shouldn't have 4 chances to qualify for the world cup when Asia has 1, and only through...

    The Fallout from RWC 2015

I think it could be good to see the PNC (Pacific Nations Cup) played at the same time as the Rugby Championship, with say the top 4 in the PNC (Pacific Nations Cup) then each playing a match against the 4 RC teams (1v1, 2v2 etc). Another idea would be to combine them and have a 2 tiered structure of 5 teams each. A top division and 2nd...

    Ideas for Australian Rugby Union

The negotiations have been going forever! It'd be really interesting to know what on earth's been going on behind the scenes. Hopefully the delay will be good news. Maybe the world cup creating more interest in certain markets or something like that.

World Rugby to trial new Law variations

It'd be pretty unfair on the player who did nothing wrong. Especially as for some teams it may be the same player chosen every time.

I think it'd be cool if they opened it up to players from South America too. Or even just had some sort of extra dispensation for players from the likes of Brazil, Chile and Uruguay.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

That's probably better then. And Sacramento and San Francisco are still pretty close together. Close enough to create a decent rivalry where fans will hopefully travel from one to the other for matches.

World Rugby to trial new Law variations

I can think of 2 ways to simplify the laws. Both involve ending a distinction between a ruck and a tackle. One was the rule in the full ELV's that allowed hands in the ruck. The other would be to not allow hands in the tackle (so effectively calling any tackle situation a ruck as they are...

    Rio Olympics

I wouldn't be too afraid of Ireland but Canada could beat us in a one off game. They're a decent side. They had a very good season in 2013/14, but started poorly last season. They were playing pretty well by the end though. There's definitely going to be one deserving team (who would be at least...

World Rugby to trial new Law variations

Australian super rugby derby's can also be quite a bit samey. Just samey in a more negative way. But I wouldn't be against that Highlander. It would also keep an odd number in the scoring system, which I think makes for more interesting scores (including 1 point games). That probably helps...

    Rio Olympics

Who knows with Samoa though. Even last year they had a couple of good tournaments. They have a new coach now and so perhaps some better direction. If it was a series of 7 games then I'd feel confident, but in a one off it could go either way.

World Rugby to trial new Law variations

Well they have had generally positive feedback on facebook, the roar, even here! And they've done what I thought they would do and what they aimed to do. I can't remember if you specifically said this, but quite a few of you guys thought it wouldn't result in a reduction in penalty goal attempts...
