    Reds Vs Tahs pre-season trial, Roma 12/02/22 @ 7:30pm

The Reds’ accuracy at the breakdown was very poor in the first half and were physically bullied my a Tahs pack that appeared determined to prove themselves. Hard to make space when you are losing the contact battle. Well done to the Tahs on being up for it , showed great energy and deserved the win.

    Reds Vs Tahs pre-season trial, Roma 12/02/22 @ 7:30pm

Based on the last two trials I’d say he has a bit of work to do even to start for the Reds. Defensively not dominant enough in tackle contact or over the ball and wasn’t all that visible on our attacking rucks, which again were poor in the first half. Certainly didn’t have the presence that...

    Qld GPS Rugby 2022

Heard during the week that PJ Sua did his ACL playing 7’s around October last year. Might struggle to be ready in time for this season. He is only in year 11, so still another chance if not this year.

    Reds Vs Tahs pre-season trial, Roma 12/02/22 @ 7:30pm

Once all fit and available you have Daugunu, Petaia, Vunivalu and Campbell as options for the back three. Whoever misses out goes to the bench , unless Petaia plays 13 and Paisami goes to 12. With any of those combinations X-factor and game breaker ability are well covered. Aubrey could well get...

    Reds Vs Tahs pre-season trial, Roma 12/02/22 @ 7:30pm

Will be interested to see how Kalani Thomas performs in this trial. Had his wobbly boots on big time , bit surprised he was cleared to play. Thought Jeans was very good when he came on to replace him. Would have been a difficult choice for Thorn if Tate was fit to play.

Got to remember Annan, Aubrey and to a lesser extent Grealy are still kids. All named in the Junior Wallabies. Grealy the only one with decent QPR exposure. For mine , let them play some First Grade and learn from both playing and being part of the extended squad. We have plenty of X-factor...

Pity Keynan Tauakipulu not named for the Reds, could have been brother v brother with Tiaan named for the Tahs.

Cracking backline Adam , like it . Backrow of Tauakipulu, Hough and Gibson at 6/7/8 could see happening , although Pat Maka was there last year. Werchon is a halfback so would be at 21. Hope they get to play !

Not saying he wouldn’t go ok , just that coaches seem to looking for height. Vest would be fine at lock in Super Rugby if you had genuine lineout options at 6&8. No different to ASY (Angus Scott-Young) playing at lock for that matter, height wise at least.

Close contact rules are ever changing. Latest update for Qld is the 22nd of Jan, as it currently stands the Qld gov’t are giving you just 4 weeks grace after recovering from Covid before you can be considered a close contact. ATM it won’t give JOC (James O'Connor) and co the whole season not needing to isolate...

And the bloke keeping him out of a Brumbies team had to leave Qld to get a crack at Super Rugby.

Just watched the replay without seeing the starting lineups. Took me half the game to realise the 11 for Ireland was Mack Hansen ( I’m obviously a little slow on the uptake or hampered by a few beers with lunch or both ) , but he was very good . Had a roving license, followed play in attack ...

Think from Monday the pool of 30 non-contracted players on standby as Covid replacements for the comp will be known. Not sure if this can be called on for other injuries?

There may even be some sway from RA about who plays 15 at the Reds. I know Thorn ultimately decides and will pick what works best for the Reds , but Rennie has mentioned a few times now he would like to see Petaia have a run at 15 and Thorn does seem open to the idea.

    Reds v Force pre-season trial. 5 Feb.

Interesting that the Force played what would be close to their best 15 for large chunks of the game and the Reds really seemed to mix it up and rest a few. Thought the forward pack lineup for the Reds that started the second half was really gaining some dominance before the replacements...

    Reds v Force pre-season trial. 5 Feb.

Spencer Jeans impressed when he came on . The speed of his pass appears to be a step up on Kalani’s and whilst he may not have Kalani’s running game , he was good in general play , certainly doesn’t mind getting involved in rucks when needed. He played back row up until U16’s. Was also...

    QLD Colts 2022

That’s a good start , but they had plenty of camps over the past two seasons , just didn’t manage to play a game other than internal trials to pick the final squad. They were in camp getting ready for the games against NZ when the whole thing got called off. Close , but no cigar..

Hopefully RA can get our U20’s program off the ground this year after 2020/21 being write offs.

Reckon Gordon left because JOC (James O'Connor) was made 10 after arriving, he or his manager didn’t want to wait another three years for a starting spot.

27 turning 28 this year. Played 3 or 4 seasons for the Sydney Rays in NRC, moved to Brisbane at the start of 2020. He was also part of the UQ scrum in 2021 that had very few issues across the season, including against Easts and GPS. Don’t think the issue was with who was locking the UQ scrum in...
