    Shute Shield 2013

Does anyone know if Club Rugby TV will be operating again next year? I loved being able to watch a couple more games midweek, and often between teams that don't get many ABC games. I know Fairfax were funding them so there must be a fair chance they'll wind up before next season.

Our Centre Partnership - Moving Forward

Fair point, can't say I really remember the backs getting much action for either side in those games though. May just be me trying to block those games out of my memory....:( Actually that's an excellent example, they do have somewhat similar styles. I'd describe Mauger as a combination of...

Our Centre Partnership - Moving Forward

I might be the only one, but I've never been impressed by Tapuai. To me, he's an in between player - not a hard runner and big defender like McCabe, not a ballplayer like O'Connor, but a bit of both and he often seems a little confused as to what his role is. I think they should at least try...

Scott Higginbotham - Liverpool kiss on McCaw

He didn't look like a disingenuous cock here, but he is definitely verging on stupid and arrogant rooster.

Scott Higginbotham - Liverpool kiss on McCaw

Kneeing and headbutting is just footy? Hello? Hello? Scott Higginbotham's brain? Are you in there? Anywhere? They definitely should've just gotten the Wallabies' media/PR manager to write a statement for him or at least tell him what to say.

    Wallaby injuries: poor diet?

Laughing so hard at the 'very sharp leisure wear' bit. I actually wish I had those inserts, I had a bruised hip last year after an awkward landing right on the point of the hip joint, hurt like crazy. Not quite bad enough to stop me playing but bad enough to be a pain in the....well, hip.

    Respect for Refs..an interesting article

Fields not roped off are the worst, as a player and a referee. One ground up here gets very muddy around the edges, and when people stand on the sidelines, as they do when theres no ropes, their feet + mud makes the touchlines impossible to see. Our school oval was never roped off for games, so...

    Wallaby injuries: poor diet?

Somewhat related - in today's environment, you get guys who are great athletes, but not great rugby players. Pierre Spies falls into this category for a lot of people. You look at a lot of the All Blacks, and they're clearly in excellent shape, but that doesn't override their rugby ability. You...

    Wallaby injuries: poor diet?

I think Higginbotham would be pretty stoked at being called a male model lookalike, can't imagine he gets many of those comments with a head like that! Personally I think the amount of soft tissue injuries is partly due to players carrying too much weight. Imagine the stress that is put on the...

    Scrum Talk

Can't say I'm unhappy to see crooked feeds being penalised, it's about time. Unfortunately the 3 stage call didn't seem to decrease the amount of scrum penalties given by Nigel Owens.

    Respect for Refs..an interesting article

As a player who has their refs ticket, I would consider myself a bit of a backseat driver when I'm playing, especially because I know a lot of the refs. I mainly just get a bit vocal if I think theres something illegal going on, but I wouldn't say I'm anywhere near the worst around, there are...

    Respect for Refs..an interesting article

    Because league players can't read.

    Respect for Refs..an interesting article

Rugby has nothing on soccer as far as referee abuse goes - from the EPL to the A-League, and even local club comps, the way soccer players just scream and swear at the ref's face, and the ref does nothing about it, is disgusting.

    Newcastle Hunter Rugby Union

I'm sure he'll help Wanderers, but I don't think him coming in will mean they'll finish in the top 2-3. This year they brought in a highly credentialed coach - Ellis Meachen - who was a former Hurricanes assistant coach (which is also the highest level Louden has coached at) and was expected to...

    Newcastle Hunter Rugby Union

Pretty disappointed for Uni - I think everyone wants to see them strengthen and as far as I knew it was pretty much signed, sealed and delivered that he'd go to Uni, but I guess its appropriate that he goes to Wanderers. They've got the best facilities, the best credentialed coach...but then...

Herald Sun Article - Rugby boring

This is why we Novocastrians read the Herald online now - so we're not giving our $1.40 to this muppet.

    2012 – ITM CUP - NZ's 3rd Tier Competition

Canterbury - what a team. Auckland gave them a real shake but Cantabs were definitely the better side. Not sure if nerves got the better of Jackson, probably the worst game I've seen him have, he's usually a very good ref. How about Ryan Crotty? Only confirmed a spot in the side the night...

    Scrum Talk

Okay, admit it, which one of you is John O'Neill? It is the logical train of thought now...might get a trial in next year's ITM/Currie Cups?

Herald Sun Article - Rugby boring

Firstly, who is Bret Harris? Should I know? Secondly, that is the funniest/worst idea I've ever heard. So bad it's hilarious.

    Scrum Talk

The Bledisloe got me thinking and discussing the scrum with a couple of mates. Came up with a couple of ideas: - all penalties from the scrum be short arms. Seems like a no brainer for me. I'm a qualified referee and sometimes am unable to pick which team (if any) caused a scrum to collapse...
