Herald Sun Article - Rugby boring

Does anyone else remember the days from the early 2000's (I only just remember it. I was pretty young and it was my introduction to rugby) where games would commonly have 70+ points scored, mainly due to the way Super 12 was played, and league people would criticise rugby for having too many...

Scott Higginbotham - Liverpool kiss on McCaw

IIRC I think Ioane would've gotten 3 weeks for that tackle if he had've had a clean record, which is still inconsistent.

Herald Sun Article - Rugby boring

I'd rather see, say 4-6 good tries, in your average Super 15 game, than 8 tries in an NRL game where 2/3 of the tries come from kicks. The amount of tries through the hands is diminishing in league as well as in rugby, as defences get better and better. Comparing a Bledisloe to a league test...

Scott Higginbotham - Liverpool kiss on McCaw

What a joke. Greyling - diving forearm to the head of a prone defenceless player. Higginbotham - knee and headbutt to player. Ioane - strong tackle. Gee, I wonder which one of these got 5 weeks, and which ones got 2 each...

What characteristics make for a good nine?

From my experiences of a few years playing halfback, and from watching, I'd say: - passing, obviously. - various kicks from the base of the ruck, and also from 8-9 plays. - communication (most important trait, I'd take a halfback with an okay pass but great communication over a great pass but...

    2012 – ITM CUP - NZ's 3rd Tier Competition

Poor old Beaudy Barrett will have nightmares about that last shot at goal, looked like it only just missed too.

2012 Australia vs New Zealand - 20 Oct

Ah ok, can't help thinking the crouch-touch-set call might've made the scrums a bit more stable. They seem to be reducing the number of penalties/resets. The Harris/Conrad Smith incident definitely deserved a look from the TMO, I think Harris forced it but it was certainly closer than everyone...

2012 Australia vs New Zealand - 20 Oct

Fair enough. I think he's one of the better referees around, but tonight I thought he just made some unusual rulings. It is partly a problem with the laws though, like in the scrums. Does anyone know why the game wasn't played under the new trial laws? I believe both teams requested them to be...

2012 Australia vs New Zealand - 20 Oct

Draw seems very fitting - neither team deserved to win. Wouldn't expect Australia to be happy with that result, they should have won that game, pretty much everything went their way. Joubert needs to have a rest, after tonight I think he's officially lost the plot, pretty much ruined the game's...

    2012 – ITM CUP - NZ's 3rd Tier Competition

Completely agree with you about that forward pass call against Southland ACR, ref should've blown it up and said he got in the way. Counties finished with 4 tries in 10 minutes, unbelievable stuff. Canterbury with the best extra time performance you'll ever see, and all 4 semis in the balance...

    2012 – ITM CUP - NZ's 3rd Tier Competition

What a bloody magic game of rugby that was...had everything. Got to feel for Tasman coming so close to their first ever final, but a great story for Otago with their dramas from earlier this year. Loved the ground invasion at the end too.

Semi Final weekend - backing Counties, Canterbury and Wellington to win their games...tonights Otago vs Tasman game is a toss of a coin for me.

    Rugby television programs

Watched the Munster program today, interesting that they have the same issues with club rugby/professional rugby that we do. The Code was a bit of a dirge. Total Rugby is always a winner.

Bryce Lawrence - JO'N forced my retirement

I feel a bit bad for him honestly, he gets judged on one awful game he had, but such is life. He was a pretty good referee before that, and I remember thinking he was definitely the right choice for the S15 Final last year, being clearly the best performing ref at the time. 200 games is a hell...

A honest question from a Kiwi about Richie and Australia

I think it's just coincidence that the book came out at this point. I don't know why everyone has gotten so worried about this (and what Graham Henry said in his book). I'd rather they tell the truth rather than sugar coating it and McCaw saying how much he wished both of them could've had the...

A honest question from a Kiwi about Richie and Australia

I actually think McCaw does the best post match interviews of any captain nowadays. You can tell he actually thinks about his answers rather than just ticking off his list of clichés.

A honest question from a Kiwi about Richie and Australia

All these people who hate Ali Williams! I must be the only one who thinks he's hilarious. I've read his books and he seems like a really good bloke, pity about all his injuries because before them he was right up there with the best locks in the world. I can understand why he rubs some people...

    Grumbles gone?

Spoiler: Radio was just Growden himself. Never particularly liked him to be honest, he said some pretty bad things over the years about players, especially recent All Blacks. Also I think his coverage of Sydney club rugby has been very negative, when he is supposed to be the chief rugby writer...

Savea Jr is another 7's product isn't he? Also Johnny McNichol from Canterbury, he's been in sparkling form playing at 15 the last couple of games (against Southland and Northland), definite S15 potential.
