I do think people in Sydney don't really get that even that comp, great as it is/was, was basically unknown out of Sydney, even amongst huge rugby fans. It wasn't televised in Queensland let alone anywhere else. There was no way to follow the teams etc. Like you, I knew the NSW players, but had...

    Aussie Player Exodus

The Superbowl has better ratings in Australia than almost every Wallaby test these days, and NFL is only getting more and more popular here as access to it improves

    Aussie Player Exodus

You don't get an offer if you are at the end of your career. There's only a dozen running backs in the league over 30. It;s a young man's game

If LRZ is on what's being reported ($5m over 3 years) with the Chiefs, that is going to attract other players even if he is only on practice squads

    Wallabies 2024

Doran at the Roar reporting 17 Reds, 14 Rebels, 7 Tahs and 7 Force players have been asked to keep training in advance of the squad being named. No Vunivalu

ARL was as popular as it ever was in the mid-90s before the super war split. Average crowd of 14000 AFL was getting to an average crowd of 30,000 by then too. Outside of a couple of big games each season, it was lower grade players, parents, wives and girlfriends in the Brisbane rugby comp

ARC was 2007 so I reckon there were people in the administration that thought the same. Unfortunately that comp was a complete financial disaster, and scared off any other genuine attempt. Even NRC was accepted as a low cost development option. Ultimately, we have used Super Rugby to have as many full...

I think you might be misunderstanding where the power in French rugby (and increasingly World Rugby) lies

I'm guessing it was the Waratahs 33,740 person average crowd in 2006 which caused most of the worry

Whose headline is this? It's pretty cringeworthy.......

    Wallabies 2024

This is the worst Wales side in a long time, and I'm not that confident that we do beat them unfortunately. We should, easily.
  13. Strewthcobber

    Wallabies 2024

It's a bit of a challenge. I think those three will go fine against Wales and Georgia, but come up against NZ and South Africa, and then the bigger teams up north, we would find ourselves in a Chiefs v Reds situation of being short of big bodies. I do think we will see a lot of rotation in the...

    Wallabies 2024

I'd say they were very related. One player is getting a decent Wallaby top-up and first crack at the position, and they other is off to the Gold Coast

I don't think that's particulalry fair. Have a look at the conversation in the Red's 2024 thread right now. There are something like 25 players already signed to end of 2025. They know what their roster looks like. From here it's just adjustment round the edges

    Wallabies 2024

His rugby team couldn't even pay his Super. This is not nearly a one-way street.

    Wallabies 2024

Dude suffered through Eddie Jones ruining his World Cup dream and he didn't get his Super paid by the Rebels for at least a year, and now his employer doesn't exist anymore. I probably wouldn't have much faith in rugby either if I was him.

    Queensland Reds 2025

Blythe has a contract for next year too. Cormac Daly and Liam Wright looking like the only contracts left open........

    Queensland Reds 2025

Great. Missed that. Vest has a contract for next year already doesn't he?
  20. Strewthcobber

    Queensland Reds 2025

If they come Cormack Daly and probably Ryan Smith wouldn't be re-signed. Perhaps L Wright heads OS and Smith is signed. Either way yep. Pretty disruptive. Only so many spots available.
