Rodda leaving highlights one of the big issues currently in player retention. Experienced players on the cusp of Wallaby selection and potentially a Wallaby top-up, if they perform well, need to make a decision around contracts before the Wallaby season actually commences. Guys like Rodda, and...

    Wallabies 2024

Only signed to the Force until 2024 I think. https://wallabies.rugby/news/izack-rodda-resigns-with-australian-rugby-2022228 It sounds like he is going to be released from the 2024 contract early in June.

I read an article once that analysed every rugby stat and it found almost every one had no predictive power at all as to which team won the game, except one. Which ever team kicked the most was the only stat correlated with victory. So I propose all pro rugby players in Australia get paid per...

For the last 20 years each player already has ~$200k per year incentive based payment at risk through each year based on match payments available for Super Rugby and tests. If you perform well enough to get a Wallaby jersey you get it, if you don't, then you don't. Under the CBA the player pool has to...

They are all at the Swans these days aren't they?

It's not revenue, it's from the profit and loss statement. Revenue was $36.7m (I agree, while it is a statutory profit, it's not real because of the Ballymore grants)

This is for the QRU, not the Queensland Reds, but they have been reporting huge profits It's not real though, as it includes Ballymore grants It costs something like $14m to run a Super Rugby Team. $5m for the player's salaries, and the rest on coaches, match day, marketing, corporate etc...

Player payments in Australia are based on a revenue share agreement with RUPA, through the collective bargaining agreement. RA agrees to pay the players 29% of player-generated revenue. That's where the player payment pool comes from. (At least they did in 2018 when it was last published) How...

Thanks Adam. That $1m was a typo! Rebels were between $2 and $3m over the last three years (from the administrator's report) - and just to add the Waratahs inc have been significantly less than NSWRU whenever we see it split out like in 2022 - $1.6m for tahs)

There is a small win bonus attached to the Wallaby match payments these days I beleive, but I don't think it would make much of a difference one way or another. Like others have said, I don't think there is the interest for player level sponsorship. The Rebels/Brumbies/Tahs are barely getting...

Usual reminder that RA are bound by the constitution to represent the state member unions, Super Rugby licence holders and professional players. It's not RA that needs to give up control. It's their shareholders.

Like I said, they can afford to do that because of the six-nations river of gold. Ireland is pretty much the same as us. They pay vastly more for their URC players than what revenue the league generates. International rugby generates >80% of revenue for them as well. It's just a lot more than...

    Australian Rugby / RA

URC does this. Sheffield Shield does this. The point is to use Wallaby revenue to employ as many professional rugby players as we can afford. It's pretty much the same up north. Six nations pays for almost all rugby up there. They just make so much money out of it that they can afford longer...

Yep. All pro rugby players in NZ are employees of NZRU, not their Super Rugby or provincial teams. Insurance, collective bargaining, injury management....etc. I reckon this all gets too hard no matter how good it would be for Super Rugby

The competition doesn't pay him though. He gets paid to play for Australia. His preparation for that includes playing Super Rugby. You may not agree with that approach, but that's how it is, and that's how our best players want it Are they doing that? I don't think they are. They would like...

We should have a poll. Would you rather your country a) priortised international success (noting this provides >80% of revenue for all rugby in both countires), or b) attempt to equalise Super Rugby as a competition to make it more competitive?

OK, but then you are picking TT for the Wallabies from OS because he isn't staying here on a NZ or Australian Super Rugby salary. Which seems a bit counter-productive

    Waratahs 2025

I don't know. I'm not sure the 2012 Tahs under Foley were ready for the big time

But i doubt the way RA/NZRU approach contracting will allow it.. Yeah - let's say Taniela Tupou signed with the Crusaders, how does his top-up get paid? Likelwise, how does NZ enforce All Black rest periods when they are signed byb Australian Super Rugby teams, etc etc I don't think it works under...

Will be tough to fit any more in. There are some weeks off for six nations but not many around then
