    Super Rugby General Chat

Did the Reds get a significant bump from All Black Alex Hodgman? I guess theoretically, due to a bit of an improvement in performance, but I'd say not at all due to profile. There's not even that many All Blacks that Super Rugby teams could sign that would move the needle much

    Super Rugby General Chat

I can't imagine Australian Super Rugby teams being able to afford All Blacks. I can imagine the last 5 players in Australian squads being all from NZ

    Wallabies v Wales, 6 July

All Blacks squad is announced next Monday apparently. Maybe they have airtags on their players, or their potential internationals are a bit more responsible than ours

I don't think it's a problem. I just find it interesting. Queensland Country was playing at the Gold Coast and regionally, and Brisbane City was mostly playing at Ballymore or QPR clubs around Brisbane. I would have thought those who live in Brisbane would go for Brisbane, and those who didn't...

Will depend on Wilson's fitness. I could see him not be selected for July tests but then be called back in for TRC. There will inevitably be other injuries in the backrow too

Best to wait until the weekend when all the other football codes are front and centre to make sure we get as little coverage as possible?

So leaving NSW no matter what, even though he has an existing contract in hand?

    Waratahs 2025

As in 2024? Thought he already had a Tahs contract and Wallaby top-up through 2025? Maybe released to facilitate a Rebels player?

    Wallabies 2024

All things being equal, sure. But some #8s drop back and collect kick returns on occasion, and some don't. Some run back the goal line drop out, and some don't. etc etc Without this context it kind of doesn't mean much. It's not just a measure of how good their hit-ups go

    Wallabies 2024

This is the issue with all run stats isn't it? Tom Wright had 155 runs for 1239m. Pretty much just a measure of who fields a lot of kick returns

Same deal in Toowoomba. https://www.austadiums.com/stadiums/toowoomba-sports-ground A proposal to upgrade the stadium for the Olympics was recently not supported by the government

Nah. As always the only game that matters is on 21 September. These Wales games are going to get micro-levels of interest

If we compare centres of similar size, Ipswich might be hardest spot to setup a pro rugby team in Queensland I could think of

    Wallabies 2024

Nela can't trust either of his legs after a major calf injury in one, and an Achilles rupture in the other. We underestimate how hard and how long it takes for some guys to come back from these major injuries, especially for guys like him and Vunivalu (hamstring) who rely on acceleration and...

I don't think you can really analyze the players like this unless you also know what the coach was asking them to do? These stats really just show what Kiss and Bernie's tactics were, not a quantitative analysis of the quality of each player

This is Australian sport's biggest issue - the tyranny of distance. A team in Toowoomba would be great, but it's just not big enough to support a pro sports team.

Isn't this the problem with trying to use representative teams as pro teams? Any way that they tried to equalise the teams was going to end up as a bit skewed. The problem was trying to make the teams representative in the first place Aren't all of the Reds "city players really" as they all...
