Not true Marge, one of the benefits of rugby is that it doesn’t have to be that brutal (and you don’t have to be that fit). Whereas league is just hard/ tough work. There will always be demand for amateur senior rugby.

So we have an 8 team comp? That’s not enough teams for a proper competition nor is it enough content for broadcasters. We have to face reality and leverage our strengths; Trans- Tasman is the best we have. We just need real commercial people in change of the Australian teams and managing the...

    Waratahs 2025

He didn’t lose the troops he was pretty popular with the playing group. That‘s not to say they thought he was the worlds best coach though.

So a rugby competition with Randwick and Sydney Uni is the way to grow the game in this country with their dozens of existing fans. We are well and truly fucked if we think an expanded Shute Shield is the way to go.

Despite your thesis you have never once proposed a solution apart from ‘national competition’. Who are these teams? Who supports them? How would it be any different from ARC/NRC?

It means we’re stuck with Donaldson and Lolesio though for the Wallabies this year (and next).

Wealthy benefactors don’t directly benefit player payments (every team gets the same amount of money from the NRL that they must spend on their roster). Where they do help is on the periphery- more funding for the actual club administration/ facilities and potentially the long-term networking...

How many people come to our games Marce?

Spot on- Titans’ home games have an average attendance of around 14k (I actually looked) which is better than all bar the Reds. Some of their players like AJ Bronson, Kieran Fulton and Dave Fifita have far bigger profiles than nearly any Wallaby player. The NRL is a competition that far...

    You would know Marce.

    Wallabies 2024

You might be a little out of touch- I think the Waratahs and Rebels win that hands down.

If they low-balled him with their offer, he’d have every right to take a little dig. Regardless he’s lost the chance to play a Lions series- he should have waited another year before switching.

Australia adopted to professionalism far better than other countries because we had league next door to emulate. Correlation does not mean causation.

What does any of that mean?

You’re not going to like this but the next team that Rugby Australia should add to Super Rugby (not for a while as Aus rugby needs things to stabilize for a while) is a Western Sydney team and not the Rebels. Provides a local rivalry in NSW, a large market and a there’s a pipeline of players...

We could have used Kellaways salary on a high quality second row that’s for sure.

    Chiefs v Reds 7/6 QF

It was apparent pretty much everywhere It was apparent pretty much everywhere across the park especially centres, back 3 and loose forwards. And this is why all the calls from people for Josh Flook to play 13 or wing for the Wallabies frustrate me. He will be playing against equally good...

It’s a terribly managed competition- mainly from the Australian teams. Rugby Australia needs some of the ruthless commercialism of AFL and NRL.
