What era were you at Newington? I started in Wyvern in late 70s and finished year 12 in late 80s. During my entire time I was there I knew probably less than 20 boys whose both parents worked and about half of those (like mine) were both doctors (i.e. pretty middle class). Whilst I agree that...

What are the ingredients for a 'strong Rugby school'. It can't be scholarships, demographics and boarders, look at Waverley it is a day school only, apparently doesn't offer scholarships and a good amount of the kids there are Greeks or Italians (from what I heard) who are more prone to playing...

TKS, New, Shore and Joeys have all had Asian lads play in their 1sts and 2nds recently but does anyone know of Indian lads to play for a GPS school 1st XV in recent years? TKS, Grammar and High seem to have a very large population of boys from the sub-continent, surely a few must have risen...

Is this the first year that the GPS 1sts have two boys with the same name? (Angus Bell). Also Shore seems to be suffering in both soccer and rugby, what winter sport is dominant at Shore now?

is Tyrone T still at Newington? I was browsing the Rugby lunch photos and couldn't spot him.

Someone mention that New only has two u16 teams this year, which was the same situation as last year. What is happening in this age group at New, is everyone playing up a grade?

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2015

Until the mid 80s Rugby was the only winter sport at Newington for the U13s and u12s (year 7/1st form). Although I came up through one of the Newington preps I had never played rugby before so I ended up in the 13Is (the second lowest team). Interestingly this team and the 13Js contained a...

So the 2016 New 1st XV may have the sons of one former All Black (Simonnson) and two former Wallabies (Kearns and Poidevin) in their line up. Impressive pedigree.

Leaving that discussion aside for a minute, Joeys beat New and came close to upsetting Scots

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2015

Is there a correlation between when Joeys went to non compulsory boarding and 'decline' in rugby supremacy?

How did they get the trophy down to New so quickly? I noticed they were holding it as soon as the game finished. I thought it would have been in Scot's possession from 2014 and that they would have taken it with them out to TKS.

As an Old Boy I'm very disappointed to hear this. Please contact the Headmaster Dr Mulford and I'm sure he will take the appropriate action, if indeed it has not already been taken.

I didn't realize Scots had finished above TKS and even View. I must have been referring to earlier years when I know View was much higher and TSC much lower. The 'labelling' process may not be to your liking but would you at least agree that Scots appears to have an unhealthy preoccupation with...

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

My response was premised on the statement that Scots recruits Rugby kids into or before year 7. Scots may have improved academically but they are still the worst performing GPS for HSC results. In addition if there are parents unhappy with the mania for sporting achievement why are they still...

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

"At Scots they start recruiting in year 5 and by Year 7 they have recruited a full Team of A's practically. There is a understanding amongst the headmasters that they can't recruit beyond Year 9, with an odd bursery exemption. Once a scholarship boy they stay there and are not dropped unless...

What is the point of recruiting if the schools don't recruit the best players at that age (ie why wouldn't they recruit from A grade club?)
