Definitely agree with this assessment of Scots Old Boys and their parochialism. I live very near the school (about 10 mins walking maximum). When chatting to Scots Old Boys on different occasions they have even said ‘I’ve never even heard of Newington, is it a state school?’ or words of a...

I have brought this up with the Newington Headmaster directly a few times. What’s ironic is that despite having two Old Boys as brothers in law and a mother in law who was a Newington institution (she even has a House named after her) the Head seems almost oblivious to GPS culture and the...

T to misquote Mark Twain, the reports of the death of Newington Rugby are greatly exaggerated

Ok so Cummins is out for Scots and New has essentially a full strength back line, prediction?

I’m presuming 1st XV are de facto prefects.

How did that happen? Injury or politics?

This really makes no sense. It seems to be a recent thing at New to have a Captain of 1st XV and a Captain of Rugby. Previously the Captain of Rugby (or whatever sport) was also the Captain of the 1st team. There have been a few instances where a year 11 boy has been Captain of a Sport, that...

Dickens is obvious choice. Great player well respected and humble. Third year in 1sts. As an aside Newington had a Captain of Tennis (also Senior Prefect) who played 2nds Tennis.

Quite a feat for Whelen of Joeys. Newington’s legendary Johnny Taylor (NSW cricketer and Wallaby) played 1st XV and 1st VI for 6 years each, no idea how old he was at his first appearances possibly 12 or 13 which of course would be unheard of today. Do any of the schools have lower age limits...

I’m assuming a lot of the boys who go to league are looking simply at short term financial incentives rather than potential long term international exposure. Also aren’t there more NRL teams than Super 12 teams in Australia so more chances of playing?

Wasn’t Sualli also 15 when selected for GPS 1sts? Can’t remember if made Schoolboys (or whatever they call it now) at 15 as well. If not I’m presuming Elton Flatley would be youngest Australian Schoolboys rep

Is his usual position 10 or 12? I’d say there’s hot competition for both positions in GPS 1sts and I’m simply presuming selectors will give that to a boy they have been watching in 1sts.
