Rennie is set to be announced today, apparently

So knowing RA, they are going to pick one of the below as next Chair: - Phil Kearns - Tony Abbott - Michael Hawker (the previous Chair) - John O'Neill - Tom Waterhouse The obvious candidate is Mike Baird, though. Privately schooled, white, male, with connections to politics AND banking. Not...

    Waratahs 2020

Mainly the money part. Also the jury is still out on the GWS Giants. Untold millions pumped into that team and they still struggle to get 10k to a game. .

The other thing that's relevant is that while the SCG is a poor viewing experience, it is a very good stadium for the members. Food is good, plenty of spacious bars, good toilets etc. Given the number (and influence) of SCG members it is still a good strategic move to play a few games there. .

If they appoint Ian Foster there will be a fairly strong response from local fans, I'd imagine.......

I haven't read the interview (don't read Fitz any more), so I don't know what exactly was said about Folau, but I'd think a pending court case would limit what Castle could say. Especially if that relates to 'what we did wrong'.

    Wallabies 2020

I don't disagree that we'd remain competitive. That's not really the problem in my eyes. It's the loss of revenue from TV content. At the moment, Super Rugby is a big part of our local and international TV deal. And that deal makes up the bulk of our revenue base. So ripping the talent out...

    Wallabies 2020

I risk sounding like a broken record, but I'll say it one more time. The comparisons to soccer are very valid, because IMO if we drop the Giteau rule then Super Rugby becomes the A-League - a second rate comp filled with young hopefuls, club battlers and old veterans. It gets some passing...

I do think it's hard to judge Howard from the outside. Attributing the team's overall rankings to him is ridiculous, given the number of factors that affect that particular figure. I'm inclined to think he'd bring a good perspective to a short review. He understands rugby, but he's worked in...

From Twitter: "Nathan Sharpe, Pat Howard and Bo Hanson to form panel for wide-ranging review of 2019 Wallabies season. Will interview all players and staff to form recommendations for 2020 and beyond. Coaching process to be conducted separately, appointment by end of year."

    World Player of the Year?

Surprised that no Japanese player got a nomination. Given their run, the location of the event, the general vibe.......

    World Player of the Year?

Bizarre they decide the nominees before the World Cup Final. Historically speaking a MoTM effort in that match can go a long way towards winning you the award, eg. Dusatoir in 2011 and Carter in 2015. .

    Wallaby Coach Conga Line

I agree with that in theory, but in practice it's not that easy. Let's assume that RA have run every coach through some sort of assessment matrix, and the top three available coaches are Rennie, Joseph and Cotter (also assume for a second that Eddie has been tried and has said no). All three...

    Wallabies 2020

We're in that golden period where people say 'well I can't wait for the next coach to finally dump [player X, who I hate] and pick the clearly superior [player Y, who I love]'. Which is really nice until Player X gets picked in the first test and the coach then becomes rubbish. .

    World Player of the Year?

Yeah I suppose that was my point. I'm not sure how much thought they put into this. .

    World Player of the Year?

The only Aussie with a sneaky outside shot would be Marika Koroibete I reckon. Besides that I think you're right. Underhill, Itoje, Farrell, Faf, maybe Pollard, Kolbe or Steph du Toit, then an All Black (but who? Goodhue? Ardie Savea? Mo'unga? Aaron Smith?). They generally favour the higher...

    Wallaby Coach Conga Line

Well if we're copying the mid-00s Reds playbook, does Raelene pull a Jeff Miller and appoint herself as coach?

    Wallaby Coach Conga Line

As much as it looks like recruiting Eddie Jones is unlikely, weirdly enough our best hope might be if England win the World Cup. He can then go out on top, be clapped out the door by the RFU to do whatever he wants. The big question is....... is he a patriot? That might be our best hope to...

In the interests of clearing these threads up a bit, let's keep this one to player discussion. I'll start a new thread on the coach search, and move a few of these posts over there.
