The smart guess is they settled roughly his contract value, maybe a little less. I don't think there are any winners here. If anything, the only winners in some small part are us, the rugby public, who can forget this whole sorry saga ever happened. .

Think that's for the best. Obviously I'm unsure how much $$ has been paid, but it's definitely a positive that this will no longer overshadow the game as it drags through the courts.

Raelene and Clyne have never felt the pain of dragging goalposts pads over a dewy field at 9am, after a big Friday night and before a likely 50+ point loss against superior opposition, followed by a similar loss when you're called into the 3rds because four blokes failed to show up, followed by...

Of the 15 who took the field, maybe three returned the next season.

It's the vicious catch-22 of subbies rugby. And the even crueller twist is if you win too much and take out a title, expect at least half of your team to retire and never come back. We won a first grade title in about 2010, and it was simultaneously the best and worst thing to ever happen to...

Have you been winning games Nick? That was what killed my old Subbies club. We entered a vicious cycle of losing games, then losing players, so we lost more games, then more players, leaving 25 blokes to cover three grades. I stopped playing due to injury, but since then they dropped right...

I'm not familiar with that world either, but wouldn't Raelene 'facilitating' a complete Board cleanout be the equivalent of me trying to facilitate my boss to resign and give someone else a go?

So it now looks like Matt Taylor is in talks to sign as an Assistant Coach. If we can secure him and Wisemantel, I'd be very happy indeed. While the ideal scenario may have been Jones or Joseph instead of Rennie, to end up with Rennie/Taylor/Wisemantel is pretty bloody good IMO.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

The issue with the Asia/Pac comp is the effect it might have on TV revenue. While Japan is a growing market, it's not as lucrative as Europe. South Africa, for all their faults, bring eyeballs in their own right (far more than Aus or NZ), and games in a Euro-friendly timezone. Other than...

Never thought GAGR would end up debating that bushfires are caused by gay marriage, but....... here we are. Bushfires which, by the way, have thrived under this bungling RA administration. Raelene doesn't understand rugby in this country, and she doesn't understand the importance of controlled...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

One glance at the 'future of Super Rugby' thread would suggest the denial ended long ago. .

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I'm a bit skeptical of these articles. Call me when there's ink on paper, until then it's all just posturing. While it's nice to have multiple players in the market, surely Foxtel are still $1.10 favourites to win the rights.

Two points on this. 1. It's not 'clubs and schools', it's 'Shute Shield clubs and private schools'. 2. Where does this funding come from? Are we defunding existing programs? What outcomes could this funding conceivably deliver? Sydney private schools are hardly struglling for cash, after...

Is it just me, or does it feel like there's a growing distance between the old greyhairs of Sydney clubland and the rest of the rugby masses? Between Dick Marks and David Leckie in the Oz we've had the same old rubbish trotted out again this week. Raelene is a disaster because she 'doesn't...

Does the interview really matter though? Surely with coaching it's the resume that counts. They can't exactly appoint a guy like Daryl Gibson but say 'he really wowed us in the interview'. Though I do seem to recall Raelene saying they had around 30 applicants. .

I can't find a huge fault in the process, given they clearly tried Eddie Jones and Jamie Joseph. You can make a case for and against all the other candidates, but Rennie seems like he's good enough if we give him the right infrastructure.

A short summary: 'let's go back to the 1980s where the States were king and we won Grand Slams and World Cups and we didn't have to worry about women'. And how do we do this? 'Well we form a WAR CABINET with good RUGBY BRAINS and we FIX THE DAMN SHOW'. OK, then.

Who would you have appointed, Lost?

From a 1980s Labor luminary like Richo, that is high praise indeed.

No word on the assistants yet. Hopefully the Scotland connection might yield us Matt Taylor, and Scott Wisemantl is the other name I'd like to see.
