Hypothetically if Eddie Jones becomes coach do you think he will report thru to Scott Jonhstone? I highly doubt it. Any Head Coach worth getting is going to insist they are their own man, unless the two are mates.

At this stage I don't care who the coaching candidates are. The process is what matters and it has to be strong. When Deans got the job, he didn't even enter the process, he ignored it and was given the job over the top of those who went through it. That is a just a massive breach. Then Link came in as the only real candidate, and he had the only runs on the board. When RA folded like a bad poker hand over Beale and left Link in an untenable position with a Captain and senior players who had back doored him and his management team he justifiable walked with dignity and has not made a single comment since and unfortunately has no association that I know of with a game he had been involved with his entire life. So we have Chieka as the only option with runs on the board, and with his massive strengths of passion and drive managed the unthinkable (with some luck - but that is always needed in sport) the side made the final. He milked it for all it was worth to the point of $1.2M and the results followed the same trajectory they have at every team he has coached after that initial passion and commitment driven uptick and surge of outperformance. The last three years have each proved to be worse than the year before. If this was not a world cup year and the Wallabies did not play so many tier 2 nations the win rate would have been lower, at best on par with 2018.
I do not want a walk up start handed the job. They need to be interviewed and have them present a complete plan for the team and wider squad. Tactics, training and the whole system needs to be examined, and that includes assistant coaches, not making it up as you go, like Jones with Graham et al or Chieka with Larkham and Berne who have zero results of note at any level. Lets have a proper open genuine selection process. Not a sham to justify the hiring of a particular individual.

As much as it looks like recruiting Eddie Jones is unlikely, weirdly enough our best hope might be if England win the World Cup.
He can then go out on top, be clapped out the door by the RFU to do whatever he wants.
The big question is....... is he a patriot? That might be our best hope to get him. I'm not sure if he loves the Wallabies or has any emotional attachement, but if he does then we are in with a chance.
I'm not sure he's a guy who is motivated by money. I also think the 'can he work with Scott Johnson' question is a very good one, as others have raised here.

Surely EJ (Eddie Jones) is a patriot; he played for NSW, coached Australia, Brumbies & the Reds. Obviously a bit biased but he must be chomping at the bit to return to the sun-kissed land after years of rain & drudgery. Also, it would be the ultimate power move to take over a flailing Australia and turn them into world beaters.
But I don't know if I could deal with his mind games after Cheika. I'm nearly sold on the idea of Rennie just so we have a coach who would shut up and not embarrass us.

Obviously not a fun walk down memory lane but what happened that year? This will show my age but I wasn't following rugby in 2007. Was Eddie an awful coach then? Was player quality miserable? What's happened in 12 years that's changed him into the world's best?

I'm worried about the lack of test coaching experience from Rennie, Cully's article saying "but he coached one game against the British and Irish Lions" doesn't really stack up as a good excuse.
At this point in time i think we need an old head coaching, not an inexperienced test coach that will almost certainly make mistakes along the way while finding their feet at test level
In saying that he isn't a bad option overall, just unsure if he should be frontrunner as is apparently the case, he should be our backup if all other options fail
