Selection politics and bias, Gold Squads unfairness etc.

Hey Rugby MumII are you able to define, what is a leading GPS school and what is a non-leading GPS school? By the way, did you ever hang out at Castle Hill RSL with the real Rugby Mum? :) (in-joke)

#Cheers Whatever - your advice is appreciated. Hopefully your son made a full recovery. Is he still playing? We will closely monitor him from a physical and mental perspective. It appears this training schedule almost seems like the norm when compared to his peers that attend sports schools...

Selection politics and bias, Gold Squads unfairness etc.

Congratulations to your young bloke; but can I pass on a word of warning. My youngest bloke was in a similar position a few years ago; JGS squad and junior rep league side. He was training 4 times a week, Sundays with JGS and three times with the district rep side (which included 1 weight...

2012 National Schools Rugby Sevens Tournament

Mate, WTF are you on? Let me say this, if Patrician Brothers Blacktown took rugby union seriously for one year, they would lay waste to all the GPS schools in this state, including GPS champs Newington. They don't, therefore they did not qualify into the finals of this tourney. The teams that...

2012 National Schools Rugby Sevens Tournament

You are right re: Keebra. I don't have a point, except reading your blogs - you seem to be indicating - if only Joey's or Newington did this etc etc then St Gregs and Keebra wouldn't have done this. That is 'what if'; it goes nowhere. Congratulations to St Gregs and Keebra.

2012 National Schools Rugby Sevens Tournament

What is your point. St Gregs played whoever was in front of them and are the national champs, no argument. Anyone, in any game or comp can always say what if - it doesn't change of the result.

Congratulations to your boys. Anyone seen a list of the participants selected in the Sydney program squads, yet?

Any announcment of the squad members. This extended JGP program (16 weeks, up from about 10-12 weeks in previous years) will rule a lot of dual coders (Matt and Ball players) out, as their trials commence early February and comp in late Feb.

    National U/16 Championships 2012

Thought it was an automatic YC?

    National U/16 Championships 2012

Fully agree - re: dangerous; but to imply it was dual coders (or HM players) is another matter.

    National U/16 Championships 2012

It is a big call - you seem to be indicating all the YCs were for shoulder charges committed by HM rep players (dual coders). I don't know if the facts would back that up.

    National U/16 Championships 2012

That is a few years in a row the bananabenders have won, hopefully we will see NSW 1, 2 and NSW country next year.

    National U/16 Championships 2012

Should be a great final, reckon NSW schools might win a close one.

    National U/16 Championships 2012

No argument here, let's say, NSW Country, NSW 1 & 2 (so any country player not selected for country but considered by ARU NSW selectors to be suitably skilled can then be given a run in NSW 1 or 2)

    National U/16 Championships 2012

Hi All, Does anyone the the new set up next year - apparently going to ARU tournaments for U15s and U17s. Hopefully, they will select combined NSW 1, 2 and 3 teams and flick the GPS bias schoolboys side.

    The Ideal NSW Schools Comp

Mate, don't get me wrong - I reckon you have made a bloody great effort - mark: HD. The idea of a better schools comp is undoubtly to grow the game but, and there is always a but (sorry) how does this system expand the current shallow pool of schoolboy players? (which is the reason our...

    The Ideal NSW Schools Comp

Then you or Primetime will need to give a real-life example of how it would work, in line with the subject title, because it just read like rhethoric to me.

    The Ideal NSW Schools Comp

George, 6 GPS teams actually leaves a 10 round comp; therefore, you could expand the conference finals to a 5 week program - Week 1 (top 32 schools), Week 2 (16 teams), Week 3 (8 teams), Week 4 (4 teams - semis), Week 5 (2 teams - final). I still believe you would struggle to get CCC...
