Interesting where did you read this? Link

David’s concerns were principally around the club’s inability to recruit high-profile players with this challenge highlighted by the recent opportunity presented to Will Genia which ultimately was unsuccessful in bringing him to WA. This difficulty has since been acknowledged by the Australian Rugby Union in their provision of further concessions for the Emirates Western Force regarding international players for the 2013 season and beyond.

Feel sorry for Force and their fans. Time to clean out the cupboard.

Anyone got suggestions as to who is available and who could make a difference at the Force? Talking players here, not a coach.

Force need to look at some of NRL U20 teams... Just try and pillage the top up and coming talent

I would love it if the Force just wrote off the next year or two success wise and concentrated on developing a quality playing list from taking a bunch of under 20s and using as much local talent as possible.

Tom Cusack (Aust. Schoolboys, ACT 1st grade) - I'd be having a look at him. Has all the ingredients to make it. Big, strong, quick - and knows how to 'play' the game.

Agree with Tocc - look at the Toyota u20's, especially those with Union exposure. Add in some experienced foreigners and let them learn and hopefully thrive.

Todd Louden would be a smart option as coach - the programme at Sydney Uni is a huge reason behind their success and having a look into this would hold the Force in great stead.

In the end its got to come down to the seemingly mythical 'culture'. Every person recruited needs to have a positive influence to the club both on and off the field.

Although the Brums went with a foreign coach last year and never looked back, I would think the Force need to get someone Australian as a coach, with an in-depth knowledge of the rugby talent pool particularly in the eastern states. Then let the coach pick youngsters with talent and fire in the belly and develop them, get rid of established passengers in the team.
Before all this, however, gotta find a way to get competent managers on the club's board. Twice as hard to be successful if your bosses are incompetent.

The loss of Pocock will be a defining moment for the Force, but I think there is a silver lining in it for the franchise.
Carpe Diem I say.

Maybe someone else has already mentioned it but why not try to bring Jack Lam back to Oz? I believe I was told before the Force had enough back rowers but how about now that Pocock is gone?

The coach naturally is the main priority but Jack Lam is one to consider later. He would be handy. My club recently had Todd Louden visit for a coaching clinic also. I was certainly impressed. He'd be a good option for the Force to consider.

Sadly I think this could be the beginning of the end of the force

Someone has probably already said it, but that what we were all saying when Barnes left the Reds.

Hopefully it will have the same effect in Perth. Might result in a mental change, away from just get the ball to Pocock/JOC (James O'Connor) and he will find the miracle, and result in the team coming together a bit more.

All this worrying about players is a bit speculative when they haven't even been able to define a coach for next season.

In yesterday's ABC match of the round the Tim Lane coached Marlins defeated Uni at home. The Uni backline looked ponderous (excepting Kingston) and surprise surprise, lacking in creativity, even with so many returning Super stars in both forwards and backs. The Marlins on the other hand looked efficient and fast and held their own in the pigs. I am shaking my head wondering when Lane will get some recognition.

Surely the board has to go for the on going debacles we have seen. They could do a hell of a lot worse than to take Sharpe on board as a consultant to assist in finding a coach while the board positions are filled.

My mail is that Sharpe and Pocock have already had huge inputs into the choice of the incoming coach even to the extent of demanding the right to decide who should be appointed. We have seen how well that worked out.

There is no instant fix for the situation that the Force finds itself in, but I believe strongly that the focus should be on development. The first task should be to develop the 2013 playing squad into a seriously competitive outfit that players would want to be part of, not because they are enticed by big money but because it is an environment which would offer them the opportunity to achieve their potential.

The second part of the necessary development would be to turn a negative into a positive. For whatever reason the ARU has centralised its academy structure in just Sydney and Brisbane leaving the other franchises out in the cold. This offers the Force the opportunity to build an alternative model whereby Rugby WA creates an Elite Development system which links in closely with the local clubs. By this I mean that players chosen for the ED squad would have access to all the physical and skills development support that is provided in an academy structure but this would be closely integrated with their club training and playing. Over time the standard of the local competition would evolve to the point where an increasing number of Force recruits would be produced locally.

The best coach you could possibly have to implement such a system would be Todd Louden. He created the EDS system at Sydney Uni which led to the Club becoming an assembly line for the production of professional players. He is back coaching at Uni and while the Firsts team currently lies third, each of the Club's other six grades are top of table and the Club has huge leads in both the Club Championship and Colts Club Championship.

He has had two years in an attack coach role with Super teams. In 2007 the Bulls became the first South African team to win a Super title, and the next year the Waratahs were Grand Finallists.

Cusack will be a star where ever he ends up, Rebels or Force should have a look.

What chance Colby Fainga'a to Force?

I'd be looking to unite all three of them when their contracts expire, most Reds and Brumbies fans know what kind of culture they bring to the community, and that's exactly what the Force should be looking to develop as they rebuild.

Don't understand why some people keep seeing Colby Fainga'a moving on because another fetcher is in the squad. The Reds have at least two fetchers in their ranks, but nobody says "Oh gosh, Robinson should move on........"

He's contracted anyway, and working with Pocock will do wonders for him.
