We're in the running to win some silverware tonight.

The HSBC Waratahs and Fox Sports 2011 documentary The Code – Life with the Waratahs has been nominated for Best Sports Program at this year’s Astra Awards.
The Code faces stiff opposition from within rugby, with Fox Sports’ coverage of the Rugby World Cup 2011 also nominated, as well as other sports including the T20 Big Bash league.

The winner will be announced at tomorrow (Thursday) evening’s ceremony, which takes place at the Sydney Theatre.

The full list of finalists for the Most Outstanding Sports Program or Coverage category are:

Rugby World Cup 2011 - FOX SPORTS
Aussies Abroad: 2011 World Ironman Championship - ESPN
KFC T20 Big Bash League - FOX SPORTS
The Code - Life With The Waratahs - FOX SPORTS
Created and produced by Nick Piper of Onion Media Group and a first for Australian Rugby, the documentary The Code – Life with the Waratahs was launched in May 2011. An eight-part series following Australia's oldest provincial rugby team, the documentary premiered on May 26 on Fox Sports and was watched by an astonishing 851,633 viewers across Australia. Compelling viewing for its unique insight into the inner sanctum team environment, The Code went on to achieve international success and through Trace Sports HD, is currently available to over 30 million subscribers in 70 countries including the UK, France and South Africa.

You can watch a trailer for The Code on TahTV, the HSBC Waratahs’ YouTube channel.

The ASTRA Awards recognise the wealth of talent that drives the Australian subscription TV industry and highlights the creativity, commitment and investment in production and broadcasting. Entries are sought from subscription TV channels and platforms. Full details on the Astra Awards finalists are available from their website at http://www.astra.org.au/Astra-Awards/Finalists.

Dear "it is what it is" your negativity serves no place in this thread, please take it to one of the other 40 threads that contain a place for it.

If you try to smile just once in a while, you might realise you like who you find.

Brilliant. waratah jesus for Pope! At least everybody loves him, unlike Cardinal Pell. Although we may have to check on his religious affiliation before beginning campaigning for him.

I admire his lateral thinking, a model for our other moderators. He doesn't threaten to expel transgressors from the site; he exhorts them to take any negativity "to one of the other 40 threads that contain a place for it."

Waratahs fans who supported the Wallabies win today at SFS can sleep well tonight.
It's their 1st win in 63 days at the stadium.
Surely, that's a positive.

Positive thread, whilst we are on this great thought thread, lets start a positive ideas thread.
1. shutes shield start a little earlier so we have a full home and away system.
2. get the tah's roster involved with the SS clubs - walk the field at half time and kick the footy with the kids, let them give the kids 50 family passes.
3. SS / Tahs family culture.
Cheers

The Tahs are playing at homebush this week which is a double positive:
1 - it'll only take me 15 minutes to get to the stadium
2 - even if we lose no-one will be there to see it

The match this weekend will be preceded by the juniors march-past, which the kids (and I) always enjoy, and, if precedent holds, the players will spend plenty of time signing autographs afterwards.

From little things big things grow.

Could I on behalf of all G&GR members propose a huge vote of thanks to waratahjesus for starting this thread? A simple idea that has the power to resonate. I see it in the same light as Gandhi's concept of "passive resistance". No matter how many times the British forces beat the Indian peasantry over the head with bloody great whacking sticks, Gandhi's message was to stay calm and don't retaliate. It might have won independence but the number left with brain damage probably amounted to a few million, give or take. I digress.

wj's equally powerful concept is "niceness". No matter how many times the Waratahs are beaten and humiliated we are exhorted to think nice, positive thoughts, and to share them on this forum. And the wonderful thing is that despite the misgivings of many of us it has worked. Not only have we been contributing positive thoughts about our unfortunate team but people from other states have joined in and written nice, friendly things. Our image has been subtly changing. No longer are we hated; we are more pitied which at least means that the other-Staters are starting to emphasise with us.

Ian Kiernan started the Clean Up Australia Campaign because he grew tired of plastic bags fouling his boat propeller and condoms clogging his water intake. Within years Clean Up Australia had gone global. I see something similar occurring with wj's Niceness Campaign. It can really take off.

For a start tourism in this state would get a huge boost if we were re-badged as "New South Wales - State of Niceness".

Going forward, if there were universal adoption of the motto, "Be Nice not Nasty", most of the world's problems would be solved.

Julia Gillard would stop referring to the Opposition Leader as "Mr Rabbit", while he would stop asserting that she had invented the practice of politicians lying.

Kofi Annan could have "Be Nice not Nasty" translated into Syrian and pay local layabouts to graffiti it on all the walls in Damascus. Problem solved although I'm not sure that arms manufacturers would be too impressed.
