Waratahs 2025

it would be like Lionel Messi joining the Onehunga Crippled Childrens Burn Clinic 3rd XV.

in other news I like how the NSFW home jersey looks to be covered in bleeding gunshot wounds.

Fitting.

Surely no self respecting rugby man is going to buy .. let alone wear that shirt…. comes with matching boardies… must have come from the same ‘Ideas’ section as the famous ‘Tahman’!! Attrocious.

Tend to think it’s a NSW Rugby issue rather than blame a flower. England Rugby, South African Cricket.

It wouldn’t look any better with Red Koala head or a horse tbh.

Took a swing, it’s a miss. Other items are pretty good

It's largely an execution issue, but mostly from the manufacturer - I think it's the same one making the brumbies and wallabies ones, and the brumbies one is a bit better but not great.

The patterns are too regular and the base shirt itself sucks - If there was any real effort being put into these they'd be camp collared. Just that change would have them read better as a party shirt.

But it's a popular style and definitely something they should be going for, particularly with most of the season played while it's still relatively warm in Australia - hell, I already pick up a new red Hawaiian shirt every year or two to wear to games in the first half of the season, if there was a Reds branded one I'd probably get that instead, unless it was truly awful.

It is wild that the tahs one is the worst (putting aside my personal disdain for them) though, a red flower on sky blue should be a slam dunk for a Hawaiian shirt. Definitely the easiest one to have the logo worked in naturally.

That many koalas would look like the aftermath of a bushfire, but that many horses woud be a stampede.

Let’s be honest. They’re all shit, but there is a niche audience who love it and I’m not gonna get too caught up on a shirt on the merch shop.

Lowes stock flames on black shirts for a reason.

I also think that for a lot of Hawaiian shirt purchases, people are going for the one that looks the most ridiculous. As you said, Lowes is the market leader here.

Anyone buying an Australian rugby related Hawaiian shirt is absolutely doing it ironically.*

* except for Jim Tucker.

And that's definitely where it's not too much of an issue - that tahs one looks to have mostly sold out, so you can't say they went too wrong, but I do think they've missed a bit of an opportunity not going for it properly - camp collar, better (but not less ostentatious) design, etc.

They did at least go for matching shorts though, which is probably the key part given the number of sales you can get immediately upgraded to the full set.

Reports coming out that Langi Gleeson is off to France after this season. Crying shame, hasn't really hit his straps yet as an international.

It is. Few strong prospects in the pipeline but not an equal replacement for Gleeson. Hopefully Leota can be signed?

Anyone want to give a prediction for the year? Position on the ladder and any breakout players?

- Tahs to finish 7th. Any games missed by Bell and TT will cost them dearly.
- Henry O'Donnell and/or Jackson Ropata to push into the match day 23 most weeks by mid season. Joey Walton to be pushed out.

Will be hard to keep Leota when he is not in the pecking order for Wallabies and can easily double his money overseas. There doesnt seem to be any Valetini type ball runner coming through as NRL snaps up the likes of Lomoto.

Kalapu to feature, TT to miss most of the season and Kailea to make an impact, Foketi to captain on occasion. Agree about Walton.

Is Ropata a big body? as per usual the Australian SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) team webpages cannot get their sh!t together and complete the squad details. Every bloody year.

Someone please correct me but I'd say built like Foketi so definitely not small but not a giant either. Rather my Centres be on the agile side. JS brings plenty of size and O'Donnell would have to be high 90kgs.

All.Rugby gives some some stats on height and weight. Not sure how accurate but it lists Ropata at 6ft 93kg. Give or take a bit, at 20 years old that's a decent size.

Leota may have more value than we know right now. He was coming off injury right?

Also, did I miss the signing of Ale Aho or is he just another training with the wider group?

West Harbour announced he's signed with them from Otago in the NPC. 21 year old Lock at 199cm and 130kg. Could be another pick up with the Angelo Smith issues.

Even before the Gleeson news I was expecting Leota to leapfrog him in the Wallabies setup as the bench backrow. He offers much the same as Gleeson with added line out prowess. Whether or not he pushes past guys like Wright and Cale (who appeared to be ahead of Gleeson before injury) remains to be seen though.

Foketi is the one who is in real danger of being lost I think. He's just turned 30 and he's fallen right back in the Wallabies pecking order, to a bunch of guys 3+ years younger than him, even more so now that they're willing to play Ikitau at 12. I imagine he's seriously considering some overseas offers for 26 onward while he's still at the higher end of his earning potential.

He's only has 1 year left on his contract and wanted out of his contract when his beloved Rebs folded - wouldn't be surprised he moved O/S - he nearly did a couple of years back
