While I thumb up this, I do find it a tad sad that so many of our players have had to go to NZ between Super seasons to get more high quality game time. The local system is really broken in offering the necessary development and game time for our players.

Change of scenery is probably good for him for the rest of the year. Sucks for Eastwood I guess but just go play and see something different. Walton did it with Bay of Plenty? He came back a much improved player.

On another note re the coach, has there been any movement on Wisemantel? I've really stopped caring or following closely. If not him I tend to think Grey might be in the running and they are letting the U20s WC play out.

Edmed doing a season with North Harbour in the NPC
All our next tier should be looking for these types of opportunities, I don't know why our Super Rugby sides aren't working through symbiotic relationships with NPC sides

I don't think New Zealand Rugby would allow it. It's easy enough to work a couple of one off contracts every year, but I can't see New Zealand being happy with a bunch of Australian players flooding what is essentially their development competition and taking up spaces. I definitely think they'd block any formal agreements that locked this stints in.

Yeah, this is something I'd have thought should have been done years ago. RA covers the player wages, and NZR can offload some player contracts for those who are simply no more than club rugby standard.

I'm not sure. They've already publicly acknowledged the NPC is full of a lot of players who are likely not to ever be Super Rugby standard etc.

We don't have the money for our own "NRC" so why not outsource until we can?

The rugby is hard and will be grounding for some of our private school princesses

All NPC players are employed by NZRU, and subject to the NZ collective employment agreement

It won't be NZRU that blocks any large influx of Australian players, it will be the NZR players association.

Good on him. The failure of his last job and the speed of it does give cause to pause on whether or not he's a great coach though
