To put my bit in, I really want to see Foley retain 10. He takes the ball to the line, he runs straight, and last year he got the back line working better than the Tahs have been for many years. Beale is magic, but crabs too much for a 10. I would be very happy to see him at 12, with Horne back there if it doesn't work. With AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) at 13, Betham and possibly 'bread' on the wings until Crawford is fit and Izzy at 15 all looks prettty good to me. With the likes of Lance, Horne and Carraro on the bench, we are well covered for the inevitable injuries.

Douglas and Potgieter to start as locks, with plenty of game time for Skelton as he developes, with a view to him being run-on later in the season.

That is bad news for Michael but at least outside centre it is an area of depth—or at least width—with the Tahs.

Very often these season-ending injuries present big problems for a Super Rugby squad but when it happens in an area of strength, it can sometimes serve to add a replacement player to another sector of the team that is not so well endowed.

This happened last year when a lineout specialist was needed and Chapman was cherry-picked from Japan to replace hooker Fitzpatrick.

It is sad to see quiet achiever Hodge injured so badly when one has seen him train his guts out for the 2013 and 2014 seasons without getting a gig.

I'm sure that we all wish him the best for a full recovery—and that it should happen sooner than we expect.

So who's in the casualty ward, from our squad of 33?

Chapman and Hodge - full contracts - both gone for season?

Holloway and Crawford - what's their status? Gray - was he injured last Friday night?

Given that we we're able to replace FitzP with Chapman pre-season in 2013, could we be now looking at three open spots on the main squad, and one EPS?

With no cash in the bikkie tin, we're unlikely to attract a big name from o/s... I reckon we're good for backs so maybe we can bring through 4 extra forwards - 2x frontrowers (from Talakai, Metcher, Falefa, and Dalziel, Roach, Lam) and 2x loosies (Hoiles and Kaveinga?) or even 3 up front and just one loose.

Keen to see what Cheika does.

It's a shame that Hodge is injured again. The guy can't catch a break and will almost certainly finish his time as a Waratah without ever playing a Super Rugby game.

Losing two squad members for the year before the season even starts is pretty disappointing. If there's an upside it's that both players were not starting XV players. Chapman is certainly more important and would have been in the matchday 23 more often than not, but Hodge wasn't overly likely to play much.

It at least makes replacing them easier (and cheaper) and the Tahs should certainly go with players from the Shute Shield who have trained with the squad through the Summer. The names you've listed above definitely seem to be the contenders.

Hoiles seems like an obvious choice to replace Chapman.

We definitely need a prop and a hooker (but we needed those already). Perhaps Hodge's injury will mean that there can be a slight change to the squad balance and we can sign two extra props and a hooker and just stick with the backs we currently have.

I didnt know they had spots for 2 back of jersey sponsors. It shows how much geography HSBC paid for by sponsoring the entire jersey. For those that picked up a jersey earlier this year without all the sponsors names - well done. Good to see the Tahs lining up sponsors though - they need all the cash they can get.

the 2nd back of jersey sponsor is new for this year, SANZAR approved.

QLD snuck one on last year (with an apology rather than an approval) in the Indigenous Game (Rio) and now SANZAR have opened it up for all teams.

They are not exactly apples for apples are they Braveheart, but I think this will be close to the mark.

Very close.

PS - Jacques Potgieter was training full blast today and said he would be playing 20 or 30 minutes in the trial on Friday night.

It will be worth the trip to watch him.

Agreed. It's replacing a juicy red Eastern Suburbs apple with a somewhat sour green Granny Smith Randwick apple.

Oh, and one is a 4/6 who excels in the lineout and the other is a 6/8.

With Chapman now out and a lot of noise surrounding Hoiles' it makes more sense that Hoiles will just slot straight in.

A prop reserve I wouldn't be too worried about until injury to any starters (Lets remember Tilse has barely received consistent game time in the match day squad and it seems Falefa will return if he hasn't already ?).

A hooker reserve is really what is needed Roach and Dalziel have shared game time no signs of Lam yet.

The injury to Hodge is devastating news and a replacement is needed ASAP. I'm just throwing out a name Kimami Sitauti former Rebel but believed to be currently in the Reds set up, handy replacement.
