my mate tells me there are a couple of young blokes in there who look after fan engagement in a general way, but no one takes control or responsibility for any of it. Also they are guys in their early 20s with little experience

It certainly shows if that is the case. It's a mystery as to why a greater emphasis isn't placed on it and looking after members. Either this is not a priority or they are not up to it.

When Cheika sorts out the team, he can take a broom to the administration as well.

It was really only one poor year in 2012, Hickey actually did a pretty good job. 2009 missed the finals by only 4 for/against points. 2010 made the finals and scored plenty of tries throughout the season in the backs thanks to the back 3. 2011 made the finals despite an horrendous injury toll towards the backend of the season.

Replaced McKenzie and it seemed to be basically 3 seasons of aimless drifting. He never really seemed to want to take control. He may well be an ok coach who took over when the team was on the way down, but statistics don't always paint the true picture.

"Win ugly" was proclaimed and defended. Big wins against ordinary teams, but never really looked title threats. Backs running into each other during moves, balls passed to no-one, kicking without purpose, etc. The players seemed to be putting in maximum effort, but it just wan't happening.

Someone of the stature of Terry Curley felt motived to come to a public meeting and criticise them. Crowd figures plummetted.

An 8 year old rugby fanatic asked to leave at half time in 2011 because it was boring and wouldn't go back.

Hickey left the position with dignity intact and should be applauded for doing so.

Looks a big step up in class from the previous 2 trials. Good chance to identify whether players have it in them to step up with the opposition. Better to find out now.

That's not a bad match-up in my opinion. We need to find out how rusty the returning Wallabies really are. Douglas looked very rusty last week.

As a matter of interest, have all four Whitelocks ever started for the Crusaders?

Not started but I believe all 4 were got on at the same time last year

Poor Adam, would've got beaten up in backyard footy or maybe he ran around them.

Volavola at 10, interesting. Thought he was a true fullback from what he showed for Souths last year, it'll be interesting to see how he goes running the show.
