I would be willing to be the unpaid intern coach, but the team will have to fit their training schedule around my regular job.

Regarding to some of the Waratahs recruitment, does anyone here actually think that Michael Hodge will turn out to be a decent Super level rugby player. In my opinion he just doesn't have the speed or attributes to turn into anything more than a below average player- he's a solid shield player but I'm not sure if he has what it takes to make any meaningful impact. Betham is pretty lucky as well, how many super squads does he have to be shifted from before the Tahs realise it might be worth heading in another direction.

I don't know a lot about Michael Hodge, but Peter Betham is only 23.

He has looked really big and fast in the ITM Cup and has scored a few tries in the first few rounds and made plenty of breaks.

I think he is a good option to have in the squad.

There are only so many 18-20 year olds who are immediately ready for Super Rugby. Most players take some time to develop.

Agreed, he really should have sat in one teams' EPS (or the equivalent of a few years back) instead of shuffling around and getting little cracks here and there.

He could be a pretty solid player at Super level. I can't see him playing test football but I've been wrong before, specially about outside backs.

I'm actually a big fan of Betham's. I've been disappointed he's been shoved around and circumstances haven't allowed him to cement his spot in a Super Rugby Team. He is reasonably big and very quick. I don't understand others comments that he needs to work on his speed work.

Glad he is at the Tahs and wish him all the best.

Betham just scored a super try.
He had another great game. His defence is one area that I'm a little apprehensive about. He goes quite high in the tackle to wrap the ball up. A strong runner can break away. I thought he tackled well tonight in fact he seemed to be everywhere.

That tackle at the end where he rushed up with a 2 man overlap was an excellent decision. He looked the goods, needs to work on his kicking however.

At schoolboy level Betham was almost on par with Beale. In fact in 2006, Beale's 3rd year in the SJC 1s, Betham had arguably the better season (as did Paddy Ryan).

But he has never really kicked on like the other two. Hope this is a sign he is reaching his considerable potential.

Betham will be richer for the experience of ITM Cup.

The ITM commentators are trying to talk him up as a Kiwi in a bit of a reverse Phar Lap

THE Waratahs will announce their coach next week but will start the 2013 season without a foreign marquee star.
After suffering a huge injury toll in the last two seasons, the Tahs may use the marquee slot mid-year if again impacted in a certain position.
The Waratahs' six-week search to replace head coach Michael Foley appears close to being resolved.
It is understood a decision will be announced next week, with Michael Cheika, Tim Lane and current interim coach Allan Gaffney the three candidates.
The Tahs have only two vacancies left in their 30-man squad for next season. They are looking for a lock to replace Dan Vickerman, and another flanker/lock forward.

I think I read Holloway will be EPS so who should we be looking for to fill a lock spot and backrower spot?

There are a number of locks in the Shute Shield that can fill the gap left by Vickerman. A player who is relatively young yet has experience in the professional environment. Players like Ollie Atkins, Tom Alexander and Liam Winton are the likely candidates thus far. Also any word on Richard Stanford ?

Thoughts so far on our supposed EPS signings Lane, Holloway and Lucas. Another specialist openside is needed to cover for Hooper and McCutcheon and it seems the other EPS position will be a Prop. Interesting to see what will unfold

Cheika's blueprint for success impresses Tahs

MICHAEL CHEIKA has re-established himself as favourite for the Waratahs' head coaching job.
The Herald has been told that Waratahs officials have informed several coaching candidates they have missed out. But there remains strong interest in Cheika, who was recently involved with Stade Francais. An announcement is expected within the next week.
It is understood Cheika impressed members of the Waratahs' appointment panel in a recent interview. He had travelled from Paris to Sydney for the meeting.
Cheika emphasised the importance of being given time to create success at the Waratahs, and then to build on it to ensure a boost in interest in the team in NSW. With it would come a dramatic rise in home crowd attendances, which would improve the Waratahs' finances. Cheika could even be offered a lengthy Waratahs contract.
While Cheika was connected to the Western Force coaching position, to the extent he had talks with the province's officials, he has always been more interested in the Waratahs, which is not surprising considering his strong links with Sydney football. He also believes the Waratahs have potential, despite their collapse from being a semi-finalist last year to eleventh spot this season.
Cheika is well aware of the talent within Australia's largest rugby province, which for many seasons has lost most of its best players to the four other local Australian franchises.
After he knocked back the Force, the offer went to Michael Foley, who opted to defect from the Waratahs to go to Perth.
Former Waratahs team manager Chris Webb is also likely to be part of the Force's management next year.
If Cheika agrees to terms with the Waratahs, this will lead to a dramatic change in atmosphere at Moore Park. Cheika does not suffer fools, and demands excellence from those around him.
A long list of candidates has been connected to the Waratahs head coaching job, but Cheika's name has been discussed at the team headquarters for many months, with many influential NSW rugby figures believing he is the man who can revitalise the Waratahs brand.

He looks pretty quick to me and a good squad player at least, like most Uni developed backs he is solid in defense, has good basic skill and positioning.

I think he is a better addition to the side than Nathan Tryst was this season. He was barely seen.
