New Kiwi recruits: Waratahs & Brumbies
The Waratahs and Brumbies have sneaked under the guard of the All Blacks by signing two of New Zealand's most promising young wingers for the next two seasons.
Afa Pakalani, who is nicknamed "The Tongan Hitman" has been recruited by NSW while Henry Speight will play in Canberra after both were spotted running around in New Zealand's ITM Cup this season.
Pakalani captained Tonga at the 2009 Under-20 World Championships and was also voted Auckland's most promising NPC player last year.
"We have obviously been keeping an eye on the ITM Cup as well as the Currie Cup and saw a couple of really good performances for him," Waratahs coach Chris Hickey said.
"He is very quick, very agile, good under the high ball and a strong tackler."
Pakalani is the cousin of Sekope Kepu, who also moved across the Tasman to join the Waratahs in 2008.
The 20-year-old Pakalani is known as a winger but can also play fullback and fly-half.

Fiji-born Speight, 22, will play for Waikato alongside the Waratahs' Sosene Anesi in the ITM Cup final against Canterbury tonight and could become something special.
The 97kg, 186cm back has been signed as an international development player and will eventually be eligible to play for the Wallabies.
Brumbies coach Andy Friend has been watching Speight for the past two months and came away impressed by his speed and size.
"What I really like about him is that he is not afraid of contact," Friend said.
"He is a very good footballer and brings real pace and excitement to what is shaping up to be a very dynamic backline."
The Waratahs have filled their squad for 2011, while the Brumbies have one spot left.
