only place they don't have specialist depth is at 7 - that is, if Dud Roodt is any good as a lock.

He's huge - that'll generally do.

As for openside, I reckon Mowen could cover it. Losing Beau was a mistake.

Age* is at 1 Jan 2010 – If DOB is not mentioned the player was the age listed at some time during 2009.
Blank = Don't know
Rookies are assumed to be: Coridas, Alcock and Fitzpatrick
2010* = Barnes has an option to play in 2011 also
2011† = Hickey has been quoted that Sidey has signed for 2 years but official sources mention “for the 2010 season”

It was not possible to find out the “Last Year” all players will be under contract to the Tahs. Please advise if you have additional information to complete the list - but do not advise anything without providing the link from which you got your information.

Also please advise about the boo-boos you have spotted and I will change them.

i was sure halangahu was a specialist goal kicker. if not, he has the potential to become one judging by his kicking for Uni.

Injury forces Fava out of rugby with unique achievement

SYDNEY, Dec 8 AAP - A chronic back injury has forced former Wallabies loose forward Scott Fava to end a rugby career which made him the only player to appear for all four Australian Super teams.

Fava was to complete the second season of a two-year deal with the NSW Waratahs in 2010 but decided to call it quits after struggling to overcome a back injury sustained early in the 2009 season.

"It's been really hard being on the sidelines for so long,
working so hard to get back but not seeing much progress," said 33-year-old Fava, who earned five Tests caps for Australia from his 2005 debut against England.

"Over the last few months it's become clearer that I wont be able to get my body back to the point where it needs to be to play professional rugby.

"It's not a decision that I've taken lightly, but at the end of the day I need to make sure I can lead a normal life post-football both professionally and for my family."

From the NSW south coast town of Kiama, Fava started his pro career with Queensland in 1999 before making his Super Rugby debut with the Reds in 2000.

Fava then moved to the Brumbies before becoming a foundation member of the Western Force in 2006 where he scored the province's first ever Super Rugby try.

Fava also played for the Australian Sevens team at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

He is the only player to win the Ken Catchpole Medal three times, voted as the most outstanding player in the Sydney club
competition in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Fava has already laid down the first steps in his post-playing career with the launch of www.myrugbystar.com, a website allowing players to provide unscripted and uncut content to converse with their fans on the internet.

This was foreshadowed for some time. When Hickey was asked about the selection of Dennis by Deans for the EOYT after the Tahs coach had dumped him, he said that the door wasn't closed on Daisy because there could be injuries. But Hickey knew then that Fava was no chance to play in 2010 and must have been close to stitching up Dennis at the time.

In that context it was no surprise to read that Dennis had been signed up.

Fava was certainly a good club player and was a brute for Eastwood at that level. He also had some good years in his pomp at the Brumbies.

i hate to say it, but that is probably one of the best waratahs squads I have seen and definatley capable of matching it with the big dogs.

only after the reds beat them in the opener that is.

It looked pretty good in 2009 too and we all suspected that the forwards would underwrite a good performance by the backline by providing good ball.

Give or take, the forwards did a good job, but the backs didn't play well together and the coach didn't come up with the best backline until the end of the season. They looked decent then but it was just too late and they got pipped at the post for the 4th finals spot.

We're assuming that won't happen again but the Tahs with the higher jersey numbers will have to be more proactive than they have been to change the mindset before we can be sure that they're on track.

No - McDuling didn't have a Junior Waratah contract in 2009 - either in the professional or amateur squad.

Halangahu can have good goal kicking performances but he is hot and cold and he doesn't have a long kick.

PS: Looking at the 2009 list of Junior Waratahs pro group I see that Sitiveni Mafi is missing from the 2010 lot. In effect, his spot has been taken by big unit schoolboy Greg Peterson. Anybody know if he has moved on and I have missed it?

I hear he has gone to League LG, Parramatta maybe? Be interesting with his body shape but will definitely toughen him up if it is true.

I know some won't be sorry to see fava retire.. but still reckon he's worthy of some sort of piece on the blog.

Recognition due for years of service.. these days not many players would stick around and get 3 catchpoles back to back while putting up with all the shit he was getting at rep level.. just too easy to go earn the cash in europe.. and Scott stayed and did the hard yards for Aussie rugby.

sorry to see his body can't take it anymore and i wish him all the best for a post-pro career.

agreed eddo. he was a fantastic club player and very solid at super level. shouldn't have gone west. things went down hill from here.
Loved him playing for the Brumbies and Eastwood.

he had a problem on the drink though Eddo. Should have been cut years ago. Turning up to training drunk. Man handling protected wildlife.

Disgusting. Australian Rugby shouldn't put up with his type, right?

Not to mention his stealing beer from Irish backpackers. Appalling.

The fastest he ever moved was (a) having a fit, and (b) chasing quokkas. Sorry mate, but your achievements as an oddly bearded mercenary don't impress.

Now now fellas..

I watched his podcast thingy this week..

I never got the gory details on the Quokka incident - but from what I remember he wasn't the only one.
Nor is he the only one struggling with nights out on the piss. As I plan to on Dec 22.. He is pretty apologetic for his moments, takes responsiblilty for them, and dealt with the consequences.

But,.. upon retirement, I'm choosing to remember the player as he was on the park. Going west Coming back - there was always a reason. A frankly, I couldn't care where he played his S14. Australia needs good players to fill up the ranks in all 4 franchises.. We're going to be thin for 5 thats for sure, so I'm not going to rag on a guy who just retired.

He was good, had some golden days, had some rainy ones,.. but thats life. I know he did more than I could achieve .. lucky prick.

Fava was great for the brumbies (and was great for those who play fantasy rugby as well). With a bit of more size (or without Kefu) he may also have been great for the Wobbs. His form was never the same after he left the brumbies.
