A poll on the ARU's site allows you to vote on who will be the surprise debutant in the Lions series - Peter Betham, Christian Lealiifano, Mitch Inman, Ed Quirk, Bernard Foley or Kieran Longbottom?

As much as I love my beloved Tahs even I wouldn't put Betham's and Foley's names forward, there are better wingers and five-eighths elsewhere.

SOOooo, from that then my angle is maximising the opportunity of growing the game precisely because it is such a one off unique event. It only comes once in twelve years, let's grow the game as much as we can! Funny how different people can look at the exact same thing yet have totally opposite views, love that about life

Its definately debatable, there are so many great players in our Lock/Loose fowards. It really depends on the characteristics that are prioritised.

Currently 70% are voting for Lealiifano but I wouldn't have thought he'd be a surprise.

Is the ARU marketing department just throwing ideas out there or is there a clue in the names listed?

That's right leillifano isn't a suprise, and the others don't even get a look in. Not really any options here, much like Aussie Politics.

Does anyone else have doubts about MMM playing in the second row come scrum time?

I think he is destined to be the Second row/6 cover on the bench.

We have some good depth in the front row but against the Lions combined resources, we can really only hope to hold steady. Benn Robinson should do the job but whoever teams with him at LHP will face a tough task. We all know the massive impact a reversing scrum can have on our game. not just moral of losing possession but penalties and possible penalty tries / yellow cards which result from the inevitable 5 metre scrum. Our number one priority should be putting out the strongest scrum possible. This includes consideration as to the strongest scrummaging locks, strongest scrummaging hooker, and having ample weight behind the front row. With TPN coming into some form, I'd support him starting. He appears to be slightly stronger at scrum time than Moore. People will point to Moore's added line-out accuracy, but lately he has not been perfect in that department. I would prefer his technique late in the game, and TPN's strength and aggression early in the game. THP Lock must be a massive rock at scrum time. For that reason I see Timani and Douglas playing a significant role in the series as our heaviest locks.

Yes I posted my team and then realised that MMM is really not overly strong at scrum time. I'm now leaning towards Douglas or Timani, both of whom are 120kg plus

I've already lent towards Douglas.

Poor timing for the big fella with his Mum's recent passing.

Hopefully he'll be in a good head space for the Lion's series and be wanting to bash a few Brits into pulp.

For my mind MMM is the perfect cover on the bench, as he covers both 6 and 4/5.

Although, I think we'll be seeing a specialist in Timani on the bench.

With MMM not playing it is likely another unit will be selected, Dennis, Neville or McCalman if they want a 4/6

I think in the first Lion's test we'll see a 6-2 bench.

Robbie seems to like that composition against teams like the home nations or the saffas where they have big bruising forwards.

But Neville doesn't have test experience. Yes, he has been selected in the squad... but is yet to earn a cap.

Anyway, I still think he's well down the pecking order.
