Understand your point but Hanigan is missing the mass which will be essential in the early part of the game. Jed was very good last night, strong in the carries, lot of work in the loose, committed no penalties and supported the row very well in mauls. His best game since becoming a wallaby.
That's why it's for when Skelton is in. It's a better balance.

I think that is a by-product of trying to over structure things. We saw a similar situation in the earlier game when Sam Cane went to swap with his inside man and the Jap guy saw the opening and went over the chalk.

“Trust your instinct” and “play what’s in front of you” come to mind.
Im confused by this comment, trusting the defender inside of you is over structuring things?

Defensive structure states you trust the man inside and stay out, your instinct says you jam in. What he did was the opposite of over structuring, he followed his instinct when he should have stuck to structure.

anyway it’s one blemish, but it did lead to a try so worthy of discussion.

Well I thought it an a fairly reasonable test, Wallabies would be happy with win, and deserved it. Wasn't a lot of standout players, whole team went ok I thought.
I have to say I personally think Luke Pearce is probably my favourite ref at moment, seems to be quite considered in his opinions, and generally pretty bang on. I not sure about the ruling on the YC, but am comfortable if that's how it's ruled generally, I must admit I prefer a ref finds reasons NOT to rc (or yc) a player then the opposite, but that's just me , I prefer 15 on 15.
Pearce's communication, both when making/explaining decisions and during general play, was outstanding.

The inconsistency around reffing high tackles is reaching truly dramatic proportions. Its anywhere from play on to red card and we almost never see the same penalty for the same offence - even on the same weekend.

The Northern fuckwits can blather on about how the cards aren't ruining the game and how 'players just need to adjust' but they are wrong. How can the players adjust to something defined by its inconsistency?

i also think Pearce is one of the better refs at present, the Wallabies breakdown issues were their own doing, agree the ARs missed a couple of not straights but were consistent, the clean out on Tate was the most egregious mistake really should have been a red

It blows my mind that in a supposedly professional sport the ARs miss a single not straight all test season.

ARs in Football can manage the offside line with near perfect accuracy and it's in constant motion usually across four separate players. A lineout is fucking static and all the ref has to do is watch it go straight (or not).

Also saw one which resulted in a try to the Kiwis and it was fucking blatant. I get its only been a pro sport for a quarter century but fuck - at least try.

That game I think was a turning point for me. I am actually starting to find the Wallabies hard to watch. Ignoring that for a moment:

Fabulous work from the line out. Just fabulous. It's been unconvincing for so long so it's great to see a line out at professional standard from the Wallabies. Porecki and Holloway are inked in now (surely) whatever other changes are considered. I'd think the same with Hanigan. I'd definitely be considering 7/2 bench, with the same locks and 6's but starting Skelton. Unfortunately that may work against a bench with specialists and what Rennie is doing in developing Lolesio.

I'm going to give Wright a thumbs up. The bloke gives me the jitters, I don't think he deserves the starting spot BUT did nothing much wrong.

Tate MOTM for me. Also in spite the criticism here Foley did what he needed to. Both these guys had occasional passes out too far forward, but sometimes when the pass wasn't like that the receiver was flat footed. This doesn't sound like a halves problem to me. Foley on the high ball was fine and his kicking was fine.

While the line out was up to scratch I'm no longer convinced on the scrum. Also we adapted to numbers at the breakdown to slowly.

You have to feel for the Scotts who will rightly feel they deserved that one. Thank good the penalty goal kick was fluffed. I just would nt have been happy loosing more points from a 9 ranking.

Plenty to do if we are to measure up with the big boys.

Yes, I get what you are saying, I’m just pointing out that if they stayed where they were they could have / would have stopped a try, in the wallabies case. An isolated incident no doubt, but in the ABs case if Cane and 23 had stayed where they were Japan would not have scored, they probably wouldn’t have even tried to.

Agreed. ARs in soccer is also a much newer creation. Meaning we’ve had more time to get it right.

There needs to be something said from the coaches about talking to the ref. They have to have a policy that no one at any time can talk to the ref other than the captain or if spoken too. We get penalised and the refs are definately harsher on us and it must be because of the chat. I washed that basketball doco on match fixing and referees openly say they were harsher on players for things like being cocky and chat back.

Scotland got away with hands in the ruck, illegal turnovers, meters offside at many times during the game and then a red all day is a yellow.

Scotland's try to their 10 it looked like foley copped a shoulder in the tackle to the back of the head and they didn't look at it.

Brain dead penalty against toupo at the end. That was the most stupid thing I've seen in a long time.

I also thought if we didn't get the win there the only win we may get is against Italy. Now we can take confidence, get rid of the chat to the ref and build.

I’m not dropping Jed because he was poor but I think Hanigan deserves a chance to start, he was busy when be came on and just as good as Jed at stealing lineouts. He’s probably quicker than Jed which is a nice counter to having Skelton in the pack.
Hanigan shouldn't be anywhere near a Wallabies jersey. Not even close to Jed

In soccer I'm a Tottenham fan, and it's remarkable how similar the conversations are here and in their fan forums.

After a controversial offside call in a recent Champions League match, their fans were all saying 'how can they get this wrong, look at Rugby they have VAR and it's way more accurate'.

Made me laugh

The players really do need to STFU. Every match the refs comment on it. The coaching staff need to start fining offenders although i suppose there is a contract clause forbidding such things. I get that there is spur of the moment stuff but FFS they are professionals and need to compose themselves and not yell “penalty” at every fuckin contest or whinge or back chat

What did he do wrong last night? He was one of the best in Aus A. It's not 2017/18 anymore.

Massively important is the line out. I would not be changing a single individual in locks and hybrid lock/6. These guys stay for me. Indelible ink.

I watch both and while i think VAR is trash their officiating of things like offside lines and throw ins in real time is a 1000 times more accurate.

it’s a poor culture in the team and when you have senior members like Nic White doing it on a weekly basis, of course other players are going to think that it’s ok to do also.

Mate it same everywhere, fans think the refs/umpires of their own sport are incompetent compared to their own knowledge of laws/rules. I can't think of a sport where it isn't so.

So what team, if any shuffle, for the game v Les Bleus?
I think Tate and Foley to stay in the halves.Foley more for his goal kicking than anything else. I suspect Game v Italy will have Lolesio to start and Donaldson on bench and hopefully Campbell to start at fullback in that game too. Remembering Foley is not available for Wales game.
Does Hodge fit in this week anywhere?
Thought Frost went well. Hopefully he’ll partner Skelton?

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect an AR to be able to see in a straight line. Do you?
