I'd describe it as a fortuitous injury. Out for long enough not to get injured before the 3N starts.

Dan Vickerman has to come into contention even with limited game time. I know match fitness and the unknown of his current qualities are issues, but I believe if he gets maybe 1 or 2 games before the Super Rugby finishes, and he looks solid, I would be using him as the 4th lock.

As good as players like Wykes and Pyle have been playing, in a world cup year, I would feel a lot more safe having Vickerman there as aposed to those players, whose opportunities might have to wait just one more year.

Vickerman was a world class lock a few years ago and I would have no problems having him in the squad if he can get a few decent games under his belt, because I feel he is the type of player that will get better as he gets a few more games.

If Sharpe was in the same form as 2 years ago, there would be no doubt about it. But Sharpes game has vastly improved in the last couple of seasons and his is one of the first names to come up when picking a form squad. I'd say Vickermans name would be thrown around as being included in the tri-nations with a view to the Cup, but I'd say he would be a reserve at best in the big pool games, probably a starter against the minnows. But I think the second row will be Horwill and Sharpe Vickerman possibly in the side, at the very least in the squad, with a bolter like Timani or Wykkes or Pyle.

and u guys to expect vickerman to return to full form? im hoping yes but cmon its been 4 years since hes played at the top.
sharpe has continued to play at the top and gotten better and better the last couple of years.
vickerman wont return to form in two s15 games> hes more likely to look way off the pace> but maybe with club games every week until the wc he might get there>>
plus has anyone considered the impact on the body of going from not playing to s15 standard> chances are he will cop an injury

He's playing for Tonga...

Stirring the pot there, Qwerty?

I am not sure he is Daz. I don't agree but there was a time when Sharpe was out of favour in the Deans Wallaby era. Sharpe has come back a far better player after that.

He and Vuna have been named in a preliminary 50 man selection pool for Tonga. The list was made without consultation of the players. It's merely a wishlist for Tongan selectors. Final squads aren't due for months.

That said it's unlikely he'll be offered a wallabies jumper as he's going to Japan next year and won't be eligible.

I forgot he was going to Japan, so he's unlikely to be included, as there would be no point for him to have any further development under Deans if there's no long-term prospect for him. But until he plays for Tonga he's still eligible for the Wallabies and he has been one of the form young guys in the super comp (when he hasn't been injured)

Agree with the fact that for a period Sharpe was out of favour. But that was 2 years ago and he has done a mountain of work to prove himself since, as you mentioned. I think the assertion that Sharpe will be dropped as soon as Vicks is back is debatable and unfounded.

Sharpie is one of the most improved Wallabies over the last couple of years, to the point that he wouldn't look out of place in a World XV or XXII. Our lineout has been poor when he hasn't been there and that should be endorsement enough of his place.

Sharpe should be put on notice, his form is awful.

Also Beale, Genia, Cooper, and Pocock.

If any of them get a wallby guernsy this year I'll eat my hat.

I second that, show those hacks the door. I'm sure we can find some more former players and show horn them into a wallaby jersey. My big tip is Ella to 10.

Vickerman hasn't played at any level in months and months, while I'd love to see him back to full fitness in time for the WC I am seriously doubting that it's going to happen. Having said that, there must be some reason he's decided to come back.
