Wallabies 2024

We're also presuming that no-one internally has been told if they're in/out.

Looking at Taniela's IG, he was training with Zane at Balleymore yesterday so it's not like the players are all sitting on the couch waiting for the phone to call.
It's the amateurish nature of it all that annoys me. If you know the team, name the team. And if you know the team, train as a team. And if you don't know a team, tell us when you plan on naming a team

This just feels like the same chaos of last years World cup announcement with Eddie naming a team while travelling across the world to pick up a dog. Why cant we just be organized like SA or NZ?

I made a similar comment previously regarding team announcements but why wouldn't RA make an event out of the squad announcement.

Get Stan to stream a live announcement by the Wallabies Coaching Staff. Follow up with some questions about notable ins and outs. Get someone to sponsor it and generate a small bit of revenue. It will also generate a bit of interest in the upcoming RC. Can't be that much effort required to put something like this together.

It would probably only be GAGR Forum members tuning in to watch it, which may be the reason it doesn't happen....

The Marketing dept is asleep and not to be disturbed.

I wouldn't think reading a squad list would make people incapable of watching the Olympics. If this is seriously the reason RA need to give their head's a wobble

Right now the Australian rugby news sites are dominated by stories of our Women’s 7’s team…

Obviously a squad announcement and the press that surrounds that to promote it is competing for headlines.

Isn't this what they already do?

On the contrary, marketing over the past 12mo has been an enormous step up on years before.

Organising a dedicated broadcast for the squad announcement is hardly a decision to be made at the level of (or just by) the marketing department, nor is it solely one for RA if Stan were to broadcast it.

Also worth noting that squad announcement pressers (as well as team announcement and player pressers), while not always live streamed, are distributed via socials shortly thereafter:

Don't worry everyone, we have some squad news...

McReight to miss the first half of the tournament:

Schmidt looking for a new openside...

The Roar understands that Brumbies duo Luke Reimer and Rory Scott, as well as Western Force hard on-baller Carlo Tizzano and Waratahs No.7 Charlie Gamble, are all in the conversation to be called up.

Schmidt will name his Wallabies squad later this week, with his new-look group to regroup in Brisbane on Saturday.

Reimer is the on ball 7 in the country without a doubt. Lacks a bit around the field but he's damn effective in defence.

Gamble potentially offers a bit more around the park and a bigger body but we haven't seen the best of him for 18 months.

Is Wilkin fit?

Oof that's rough. All the other 4 options have their benefits but none have a game as complete as McReight. Personally I'd be backing Scott, but I can see the argument for any of the 4. Tough on Wilkin who has been consistently great the last few years when he's fit.

Positive news about Wright though, hopefully once both he and McReight are fit we'll get to see another Wright, McReight and Valetini backrow, which I still maintain is our most effective and balanced backrow unit. Also sorts out the captaincy issue.

so they'll have 1 week together as a squad before the boks? After Schmidt saying he was short on time in preparation before the Wales and Georgia games? And unconvincing performances (albeit wins) in the first 3 tests...

Nor will Schmidt be able to call on first-up captain Liam Wright, with the Wallabies’ 89th skipper having surgery last week to fix a bicep issue. It’s understood the 26-year-old is hoping to be fit for the two-Test tour of Argentina.

Some news on Liam Wright buried in there as well. Sounds better than the shoulder nerve damage that was initially reported

Schmidt said the preparation time before the first test was short.

We don't know how many sessions they did post Georgia (unsure whether it was more than a single recovery session before they broke up for a break).

We're reassembling largely the same players to build on the previous prep. Presumably meeting up on Saturday gives them the number of sessions they want heading into a test.

As spotted on Instagram...
Kerevi supporting his partner (Brienne Terita) at the Olympics
Skelton doing preseason with La Rochelle

Perhaps we'll only see Koroibete come into the squad from the internationals.
