The Wallabies Thread

I will be very surprised if Cheika doesn't bring Phipps straight into the starting side with Gordon and Powell fighting for the bench spot. I will be very disappointed, but I can see it happening.

Gordon is not Genia but he's been pretty good this season, certainly crosses the try line a lot. Although we'll have to wait and see if the Wallabies are like the Rebels and totally capitulate without him.

I will be. What's Phipps played this season, 80 minutes max?

Wasn't there a player last year he brought into the side with very few minutes of actual game time? Have it in mind was Hanigan, but maybe Dempsey. Anyway, I'm sure there was someone in a similar situation to Phipps and so the precedent is there, I think. And wasn't Beale also brought in on very little game time under his belt?

Beale had plenty at Wasps but was returning from injury. You are thinking of Dempsey who came back and had a MotM performance against the ABs. But, that was at 6, where the only alternative was Hanigan. We have plenty of alternatives at 9.

Apparently the damage to Genia isn't as bad as first thought - only out for 3 weeks & available for June tests!!

What I have been saying about Australian Pro players having very poor base skills in depth apart from a few natural talents such as Folau's aerial skills is now being said by current coaches. I expect Friend will never get another gig in AUstralia while RA remains in place, he has broken from their script, and may well be an explanation why they appointed a new coach a week out from the major tournament for the year. 'We'll teach Friend a lesson for not toeing the line' he was obviously not on track with the Chieka, Larkham, Kafer coaching axis.

At this point, the former Brumbies coach does not even follow the top-flight XV competition.
"I actually find it stale to be honest," he said.
Sums it up. Him and the rest of the planet bar the Kiwis. Even the North, formerly in awe of Super Rugby, are slagging us off.

Does anyone know if Daugunu is going to be eligible at some stage before next year's World Cup? Although our stocks on the wing seemed to be incredibly healthy last year almost every Wallabies contender save Daugunu seems to be out of form with the exception of Taqele, who has his own unique weaknesses. If he's available I would like a back three of DHP, Folau, and Daugunu.

Yes gnostic, those same coaches who coach teams that play nearly all their games at night but train during the day. And then offer up dew on the ground as an excuse for handling errors.

Kafer, with his commentating hat on, generally offers this up before a game has started to cover what will follow.

Wouldn't you think that teams which played all their games at night would do at least some (if not all) of their ball work at night?

Since they always mention dew, one does wonder whether it's really them saying it............

Probably overthinking it though

I don't think I ever trained (when I did so outside the pub) during the day. We then played during the day. I don't accept all these excuses from the Foxsports cheer squad. These blokes are obscenely paid professionals who cannot execute basic skills. Like the neat excuse for Beale on his stupid kick "I thought I had advantage". Time comes that excuses just don't wash, and for me that was about 6 years ago. I honestly don't give a shit. Put them on incentive contracts, failure to execute basic skills or improve said skills leads to loss of match payments, these blokes would end up funding the game.

Beale came back better, but is quickly regressing back to where he was in the elite systems that are Australian Rugby.

Certainly not the worst idea UTG, but I fear we'll fill any wing vacancy with a N013 playing out of position (Hodge, Rona).

When you say things like that BR you are working on the assumption that the Super Rugby coach has the player in the right position, much like you always complain when a front rower switches sides for test duty.

The selection dynamics are quite different, the Super Rugby coach has to try to put the best team on the paddock from the 33 players (less injuries) he has on his roster. The national coach is picking who he thinks is the best player in each position and has no limitations. We don't always agree with his selections but that's what he is trying to do.

Using your example, it's not uncommon for a first grade winger (say) to be played in the centres when he gets dropped to 2nd grade. Same dynamic really. But you are more than happy for a lock to be picked at 6.

Wallabies assistant coach Stephen Larkham says Quade Cooper is wasting his time playing club rugby in Brisbane if he wants to represent Australia again.

Larkham, arguably the Wallabies’ greatest ever No.10, has urged Cooper to seriously consider moving Super Rugby clubs after the Queensland Reds effectively closed the door on one of their favourite sons.

In response to him declining the Brumbies offer?
