Read my posts BH. I acknowledge that Hanigan is our most likely No 6. All I'm saying is that I haven't noticed this legendary improvement in his physicality this year. He still doesn't break the line, and is more likely to be driven backwards when making a tackle. To answer your question, I have seen all but the SA game that the Tahs have played, including the poor effort all round against the Jaguares. I just can't raise the interest these days to watch the Saffa games in SA, unfortunately.

To be fair BH is the only person saying that.

I haven't seen much improvement, and he still misses straightforward tackles and lacks impact at the ruck (often when impact is needed most).

Stats suggest he has a tackle success rate of 94% this year and is 26th overall for total tackles made.

Anyway, I agree with your other point that I think he is destined to be maligned for much of his career despite any evidence to the contrary.

ATM you'd have to say Slipper is the weak link in the front row equation, simply because of his injury status. Pity is that we are strong at THP but after Sio very weak at LHP. I also strongly believe that Allan Ala'alatoa has been the best performing THP this year, ahead of Tupou who has tremendous potential for further improvement. Kepu is third in order on form this year, but will most likely be the first picked. Perhaps, AAT can be persuaded to revert to the LH side for the tests?

Sorry but Tupou has been considerably better than AAT. The only game he's looked undercooked is against the Brumbies when he dominated the first 25mins and then sustained a shoulder injury. Against the Bulls and Lions he has been fantastic and both have packs to match the best. Kepu has been great also, the Tahs scrum wouldn't of beaten the Penrith scrum over the 4 rounds of the Shute Shield in the opening weeks, once Kepu came back in it dramatically shored up (still ordinary but not shocking). I like the idea of AAT at LH but he's 3rd in the pecking order no matter which side he picks.

I'm not sure I've ever suggested his improvement in physicality was anything close to legendary.

Really? He will be the first player picked, he is our best THP scrummager.

The others aren't close at that core skill but have better efforts around the ground. The Tahs have a light weight scrum that was on roller skates until Kepu got back on the field, all of a sudden we have a platform.

He will put in a solid 50 minutes of work at test level

I think there'll be minimal unforced changes to the team from last year.........

Most incumbents will retain their spots, and there will be a few unworthy inclusions (Hanigan, Phipps, Timani) that will keep the board running.

I would be surprised to see Phipps or Timani unless either has a storming May.

I think Hanigan will be the bench lock/6

If Phipps stays fit I wouldn’t be surprised if he is in the squad. I’d guess Gordon would be the match day reserve but given he will be a debutante I wouldn’t be surprised if Cheika takes Phipps over Powell.

So we don’t think the Smith twins are Wallaby eligible at the moment do we? They’ve been excellent.

I think it worked out that Ruan might be able to sneak in but because JP went back to play in south Africa he wouldn't be. I may have that round the wrong way though.

Even if they are eligible the Smith brothers are probably unlucky that the front row is probably the only position where we could have a couple of guys go down and the guy filling their spots would still be at test level.

Hopefully it's Gordon to start with Genia out. I imagine this will see Phipps lock in the bench spot, but I'd much prefer Powell get it. I understand the desire to have some experience there but we really need to be looking at our options for the next world cup.
