Alan Jones is, after all, the man responsible for this quote when he was coaching Balmain:
"Its unbelievable. Its axiomatic, Its like a total eclipse of the sun. You wouldn't see it in a month of sundays".
Thats a strategy and a half.

Even if he was good enough for the Wallabies selecting him probably isn't the right thing to do right after a WC.. We've got plenty of young centres ready to take their opportunity.

I really think this thread has run its course, save the immature arguments for some other forum, leave GAGR as the one place where sanity prevails

Australia's Pivot is no 9 where NZ is the no 10. Coaches normally talk to other coaches inquiring about players and sometimes they pick up something they do not like or find the player do not fit into his game plan or the way he wants to play. So stats can not help much. We had a situation with a half back who had a good season. When the Bok coach back then asked around about him Heynecke Meyer told Harry Viljoen he's service is slow. Viljoen decided to ignore the advice and took him on tour only to find it out himself and he looked out of his depth not due to lack of talent but not fitting in as he use to play for a smaller union where slow service is the the order of the day. Not saying this is the case just gave a example what else can influence their decisions in picking players.

Blah blah blah. Sledging is for wankers, full stop. Shut your mouth and let the way you play the game do the talking. Tom Carter needs to stop carrying on like a spoilt child and just play the game. That phylosophy applies to all people who take part in that rubbish on the Rugby paddock.

Silly thing is he seems to have worked on some of the faults of his game (eg. his distribution is looking much improved) but we are talking about him making a dill of himself on the paddock. You only have yourself to blame Tom Carter.

One of the things Carter impressed me with last night...was how crisp and long a couple of his passes were.

When? I was at AAMI and I saw Tommy do a beautiful pass all of, about, 1 metre in the first half. Other than that his "crisp and long" passes must've been obscured from my view.

Yeah, a couple of decent offloads and a nice grubber kick, but no Quade-esque 15m bullet passes. They were crisp and long for Tom though. ;)

I think that the reality, Ruggo, is that he has woken up to the fact that whatever he does he will still get slagged by those who are always focussed on "the faults of his game". Even after an outstanding effort like last night Lindommer will still be convinced that he only threw one "pass all of, about, 1 metre in the first half".

I don't think he is going to "shut his mouth" because you think "sledging is for wankers" or that you think he is "carrying on like a spoilt child" or that he is "making a dill of himself on the paddock". I am not aware that there is anything in the Laws of Rugby that deals with such things. Consistent with this he rarely gets penalised and I can't remember him being sin-binned even though I have followed virtually all his games since he left school.

I think he realises that he will almost certainly never be given the opportunity to play for the Wallabies or Australia A even if he were to do everything that all his critics tell him he must do and no matter how well he performs. So I have a very strong impression that he intends to ignore you all and just get out on the field and play the game the way he wants to play it.

It's a genuine impasse. There's nothing he can do to stop the ridicule and there's nothing that those who ridicule can do to make him conform to their view of what is acceptable on a rugby field.

Stats don't really tell us the instruction the player has been given by their coaches in how they should contribute to the team effort. We also must remember a basic and simple fact that for any player to be playing at this level, they must have a shitload of talent and application to their rugby.

Last year one could only suspect that Carter's instruction was to be a workhorse in defence and bend the line in attack to create opportunities for Beale. If so it would be fair to conclude he did a good job of what was asked. This year without Beale all the Tahs backs probably have been asked to be more dynamic in attack and so far Carter has been doing that. One can only presume that he has been instructed to draw defence and distribute to Horne.

Ant Fainga'a would also have his instruction form Link also remember. His skill set would be much wider than some think though it is not required within his teams needs. I seem to remember him being the one to drop the winning goal in Schoolboys. I expect his expected contribution to the team will change in Quade's absence.

Comparing both players to eachother is a pointless exercise and will only lead to provincial bickering.

Do we have any therapists on this site that can give us an evaluation on our obsessive behaviour towards Tom Carter.

I want to try and get something from this that will make me a better person.

AJ talks a lot of rubbish

AJ had his faults, there is no denying that. It is easy however to pick a couple of strange quotes to make anyone look like an idiot. That hardly tells the whole story.

Anyway, I was thinking about how he rehabilitated Cutler because of how he wanted to attack the lineouts, something which he had I modicum of success in. But of course we never won anything of worth under AJ did we?

after weekend reckon that indisputable (well IMO anyway) poor on field behaviour / attitude belongs to Carter AND Byrnes

Bruce, people can find Carter's onfield behaviour distasteful regardless of your personal like of him and regardless of whether it will have any effect.

Agreed, Godfrey, they "can" and probably will. I have no desire to censor anyone. Let hostilities resume.

He just plays the wrong position to be mouthy. It is traditionally the duty of half backs and locks! I don't remember the last real pest that was in the backline for an oz team?
