Super Rugby Pacific 2025 pre-season trial match thread

Very different approach in comparison to the Reds. Must feel comfortable with them and no reason to doubt their build up I guess.

It is a long season for many of them following the EOYT. RC before that. Bit of time off now might be valuable later on and giving time to the wider squad could help when Wallabies may be pulled from the squad?

I have no issues with the approach, but it is novel from Larkham and the Brumbies. Minus the Wallabies and Aus A players, most of the squad hasn't played since June. Certainly could be argued they need more game time to gain fitness than those who played on the EOYT tours.

It is interesting that Noah is the sole Wallaby playing tomorrow. As a Meredith fan, I'm wondering if this is Noah's chance to prove he still is the best to start in the 10 jersey? I'd like to see the two of them share a half game each over the first (say) half dozen games until one settles into the spot better than the other.

I'm guessing a first up away trip to Fiji was a big factor in Larkham wanting to keep those big names fresh, both for the outing and on the return, which teams have traditionally struggled with.

Just watche the Clan/Crusaders preseason match from Invercargill today. Was a bloody good preseason hit out, both teams went well I thought, and would of been happy with game.
Clan won 29-25.
The one most here would be interested in JOC (James O'Connor) I thought looked good. Looks very confortable in the Crusaders.

I watched a stream,I live in North Island, the Highlanders put one up. Was quite good too.
Although I a Canes man, I feel quite positive for the Clans supporters over next few years. They got some tasty young players coming through.

Slightly weaker side for the reds this week, but still a pretty strong side:

Just finshed watching Canes vs Blues preseason. wasn't greatest match from what I saw (only last 30 minutes). Canes won 31-19 from what I saw both teams still got a bit to work on.

A strong win to the Brumbies minus 7 of their Wallabies. Force led 12 - 7 after around 20 minutes, but the Brumbies put on 38 unanswered points through mainly top class backline play.

The early advantage lay with the Force on the back of a string of penalties against the Brums. Their first try came from out-flanking the defence down the right hand side, while the second came from a rolling maul. The Brumbies then had their maul defence working and repelled numerous rolling mauls over the remainder of the game. The tryline defence by the Brumbies was also water tight. Force had slightly the better of the scrums and lineouts, but not enough difference to influence the score board.

The second half became a bit of one-way traffic as the penalty count evened up, and both Meredith and then Debreczini took control in the No 10 spot.

Try scorers for the Brumbies included Lachlan Lonergan, Billy Pollard, Luke Reimer, Declan Meredith, Austin Anderson, Kadin Pritchard (2), and Corey Toole. There were one or two others, but memory fails me.

Not sure how good this team could be with a half decent head coach (sarcasm). Bernie will do me. The rest are chasing.

Ulster hit back with a try in the corner for Stockdale after a fairly long period of line defence from the reds. They go ahead 7-5 after converting.

Fantastic break from HMP feeding Wilson around the half way, combines with McDermott for a try under the posts. HMP converts for a 19-14 lead to the Reds

Half time, Reds leading 19-14.

Good game so far, both sides keen to play rugby but bringing different styles. Ulster looking much more settled and controlled, as you'd expect from a team in season, where the Reds are still a bit rusty and loose at times. That said, there's a lot of threat in the Reds play on both sides of the ball, Daugunu in particular is giving them all sorts of trouble.
