Shute Shield 2024

Easts Colts have very good cohesion and have had majority of the team have played every game together this year and will deserve top spot. Even if uni found a way to win well, Easts will hold top spot based on more wins. Uni have chopped and changed all season with players up and down to grade. Will still put a very good team on the park and keep to their 35 player points, but vs Manly last week were very, very poor and disjointed. Easts won in the last minute on a Friday night away at Manly so it’s a tough gig - Manly playing away have struggled though. Gordon definitely have game and have troubled Easts. Very good scrum and kick chase. Easts centres certainly provide good go forward that is a point of difference compared to other teams. Easts vs Uni grand final certainly not a foregone conclusion with Gordon, Randwick, Warringah, Manly and Souths all capable on their day but just not consistent. Colts remains a very good version of rugby to watch this year.
Comfortable win for Easts 1s Colts vs Uni 46-21.
Easts #6 and #7 and #13 oustanding - Uni #8 MoM on a losing team - took the lions share of the backrow work on his considerable shoulders.

Easts Colts 1s and 3s take their respective minor Premierships.

All clubs were invited to make submissions on the Easts player cap issue by yesterday.

The issue will then go for an independent review.

Decision will be communicated to all clubs next Friday 9/8 ie before the final round.

Hopefully the SRU will communicate the decision to club rugby supporters as well!

Along with the reasoning around the decision and the process, there appears to be a lack of consistency in decision making and the penalties handed out by the sru, overseas player clearances is a perfect example!!

Congrats @wamberal99 - the Sir Roden Cutler Shield is a treasured trophy. and with an away game next week, it is in the trophy cabinet for 2024.

EASTS - player point infringement.
This has benefited the whole club, not just First Grade, look at how all grades have placed.
Injury cover,
Players being pushed down through the grades.
Fresh Reserves.
Docking points is not going to impact their finals campaign, they have built a side that can win from 6th place. All anyone will see in the stats is a Premiership.

Club Handy Cap or Yellow Card.
I think the only way to balance it out is reduce their allowable player points through the finals in First (60 points) & Second (60 points) grade.
Eastwood beat last years Premiers yesterday, Eastwood had 46 player points. Easts had 95 (subject to correct recording) yesterday, the average of other clubs 60 player points.

Thanks, Dave. This was a rebuilding year, and we had three genuinely unlucky losses. All the best to your boysl

What is our rugby union doing now they dont have to manage the Tahs?

They didn't really - community rugby always had a bit of fencing between it and the pros, with a bit of cash coming through.

The question is: what are NSWRU, SRU, NSWSRU, SWRU, and SJRU going to do about getting together with the Schools competitions and figuring out how we better align with each other.

Stand together or die alone.

Hasn't it been poured over since the ages yet nothing changes?

Yeah but people have to want change. And that can't happen short of universal enlightenment or existential threat (my money's on the latter).

Penrith were the canary in the coal mine, along with Two Blues. Now we're seeing issues with Southern Districts and Eastwood.

You can only pin part of the blame on the Wallabies' lack of performance. Fact is the system hasn't been fit-for-purpose for decades, just that Eales & Co masked it for a time.

Well the Eastern seaboard clique have always wanted a cosy little comp that was easy to drive to.
