This is my first post, I've been reading the forum in an attempt to understand the game a little better, I'm not sure if it's helping. Clearly I'm a female and I'm tired of the men in my family telling me that I don't understand anything about the game. I'm hoping that somebody can tell me why the Rebels are signing rugby league players-in all of Australia have we run out of young talent or is it a marketing thing?

Welcome, scampi. To answer your question: it's a mystery to us old rugby lags, too.

scampi? MMmmm. Next BBQ, please present yourself with your namesake. Lots of. I'll bring the wine.

PS. Don't put too much stock in the men in your family, you're doing OK so far.

Anesi is playing with HUNTERS Hill ala Mitchell and Giteau last year

Helps me understand the 9-42 Kings Old Boys (my old team) v Hunters Hill scoreline (brings back memories of 1980). It bemuses me that Waratahs will allow a contracted player to eff about in subbies, especially when he could be doing some real good for the game at a club like Parra or Penrith.

Probably have something to do with the third party money Hunters Hill can put up rather than Parra or Penrith going cap in hand to NSWRU asking for the player. The decision is only made based on money...........unfortunately.

This is ridiculous, the man isn't cameoing like Mitchell and Gitts he is trying to fight his way back into the Tahs squad.

I wouldn't be pissed off if I heard Hunters were acquiring players because they want to step up to Premier rugby but I've heard nothing of the sort, it seems its just for the sake of impressing the old boys.

Don't think it is.... Many club's have offered the services of a car in the past(Gordon with Hendrik Roodt, Easts and quite a few others as well) there is nothing stopping Parramatta or Penrith using connections to advantage the club. It's what you put in to make your club successful that you get out.

Unfortunetly it's going to take year's to rebuild Parramatta's repuatation from the depths of last season. A bit of progress has been made in grade circles it looks like. But the inability to field 3 colts sides is a major worry.

would like to see george fifita and sione tau back in 1st grade for west, entertaining players up front. also would like to see how campese maafu goes playing for east having Ofa Fainga'anuku fighting for the same position.

i guess anesi has given up on getting back into the squad then, probably just hanging around picking up his pay check from tahs until he heads to japan. Has to be one of the tahs worst signing. what were they thinking ?? he was terrible last year.....surely there is someone better in club land??

Some interesting selections for round 2 there waves.
I think the uni V eastwood game will be a real close one.
Cant see Randwick making it 2 in a row. Hopefully they will bouce back after last weeks performance.

Tell ya what, watching the replay of the South vs Woodies game from the weekend, a couple things stood out for me:

1, How good was that scrummaging battle! Both packs just gave it to each other all day.
2, [avert your eyes ladies] Steph Brantz as the MC for ABC rugby :) :) :)

1 and 2 - OK if you like that kind of thing. Just kidding.

The players I was watching were:

8. Lopeti Timani - the 20 year old is listed by the Tahs as 193cms and 117cms. I'm not sure if he is that heavy but he plays heavy and that is the main thing. He played OK in his first Shute Shield start and had been the best new player for the Junior Tahs this year (Kingston also played well but already has a full contract and Woodhouse got only one start).

Apparently he was just coming good as a prop for the Bulldogs juniors before he switched codes and he will need a bit of time to get the technical aspects of the 8 position right; but he should get a lot of rugby for Southern Districts before Vaea is available from the Brumbies.

7. Sam Latunipulu - the hair bear had a storming game. He is already in the other Rebels stable. I'm not sure how long Lipman's contract is for but I'm sure that Macqueen kept Sam's phone number anyway. Maybe the Tahs have it too.

12. Apo Latunipulu - the young brother just out of school looked OK too. He always played above his years at school and didn't look out of place in the Ones in Grade. His contemporaries will catch up with him in a year or two but meantime he seems to be making the best of his head start.

After watching 9. Nick White play 10. well for the Runners a few weeks before I was glad to see him go OK in his best position. Wasn't a perfect game for the 20 y.o. ex-St. Gregs lad but he is definitely in the "watch this space" category.

Last Week 4/6. This weeks Round 2 tips.

Manly v Warringah
Northern Suburbs v West Harbour
Penrith v Gordon
Southern Districts v Eastern Suburbs
Sydney Uni v Eastwood
Parramatta v Randwick

Some tough matches to pick in there. Really unsure about Penrith v Gordon, I went out to Chatswood Oval last week and thought Gordon were alot more competitive then people thought they would be so I'm going to go with them but still not feeling confident. I never feel confident tipping against the students but I feel Eastwood should win.

I agree with you, especially about Emus vs Highlanders.

I thought he did very well to mind Piukala for the day considering his lack of Seniors/1st Grade rugby experience. Piukala is quite a handful.

im thinking Gordon will win, going back a few posts, someone was unsure of the front row and the back row but what i saw on sunday against Manly, both were good, front row aimed up and so did the back row mainly jnr & greenway, both were very good in both attack and deffence,
im thinking we will win more than we lose

Tipping the underdogs to get in this week last week most home teams won except Sydney Uni I think. Big upset I feel that Parramatta will get over the wicks, others Penrith is just a real hope from all reports they're did well against Wests but we'll see this week if they can back up and dont see sydney uni losing at home against woodies tight game though.
