We heard a whisper that the Woods have had over 100 for Colts. So I find it hard to believe that they are struggling to field a 4th grade side. They could just push some of the older colts up. Maybe there was a lower grade wedding or something on last week.

That is very sad if true for young Killingworth. Agree with other comments he, nor any other boy straight from school, should be anywhere near a first grade game at this stage of his career. That is why Colts exists to help school boys transition to grade. Make no mistake Colts is much harder than any rugby they will play as school boys - the 22 week as opposed to 8 week school competitions ensures that. Could this need to put kids up against men be an unfortunate consequence of some clubs gathering as much of the available talent as possible creating player shortages eleswhere? I note that all of the school boy stars who have gone to League are playing Under 20's for obvious reasons, why do we think a boy can go out and play against men in club rugby?

Agree wholeheartedly. Powers that be should stop this absurd push for schoolboys to go to grade if what ? They play a game of International schoolboys. Nonsense.

I agree that clubs have a responsibility to look after their players , & not push them to play in games that they are not ready for , but do we know that this was the case with Killingworth ?
However a number of boys do handle the senior grades on leaving school , & quite a few play second grade for the first half of the season , & then get the occasional first grade game towards the end of the year.
As it was a trial game ,it's likely all sorts of players were on & off the field , because their playing standard may not be known to the coach.
Some young guys won't play colts .
My commiserations to him.

Can anyone tell me how many coaches in the shute shield hold that as their full time profession?

I think it's just Manly, Uni, Northern Suburbs(with a mix of marketing, pretty sure), Eastern Suburbs, Southern Districts and Eastwood(well Melrose was last season).

Jeez that Warringah side looks weak.
We've lost so many players that there's 7 from the Rats Twos last year and one from Colts in that XV IIRR. The only decent acquisition we have is Peseta from Gordon. Hobden played in the Canberra comp but I haven't seen him play and Lindfield is from subbies. I don't know 12. Walsh, or have forgotten him.

Going to be a long year; in fact: a long few years I reckon.

Anyone know if Tim Maxwell, the lock picked for Randwick, is related to either John Maxwell, the club stalwart, or Michael Maxwell, a former Oz Schoolboys player in the famous 1977 tour to the UK?

son of John. Tim has played First and Second Grade for the Wicks for the better part of the last 10 years.
