Davidson been playing in Young has he? He would be destroying poor teams in the Country!?
Manly and Uni looks like a cracker. Particularly the battle up front and in the centres.
it probably means a return to australia if he is offered a contract. the force are in the most dire front rower need right now.
From what I hear he was working on the family farm and playing outside centre ffs! Great player and great to have him back. I still think Macqueen is grooming him to become the Brett Robinson type at the Rebels. Reliable player with great leadership skills.Davidson been playing in Young has he? Eastern Suburbs: 7. Andrew Shaw,
maybe Travis Church is the answer to Australia's scummaging woes. Can play both sides, AT THE SAME TIME.
Jared Barry at 6? Sacrificing speed around the park for lineout dominance?
Another interesting prop contest at Pittwater with Wallaby squad member Pek Cowan taking on discard Al Baxter. Do you think Al might want to make a point?
Great choice as captain. He is as passionate a player as any in this comp and has a huge amount of respect in the club. Davo is the natural choice of course, but this is his first week back from the Young Yabbies, so he needs to settle in. Both will provide desperately needed experience to this young side.
Naza, I was at the game and it was a classic case of a champion team beating a team of champions. Easts were very good today and more hungry than Uni. They deserved their win. McKibbin was outstanding, the defence in the centres was excellent and Shaw outplayed the White Orc. I was also very impressed with Dan Roach when he came on at LHP in the 2nd half. Dellit was a revelation. Fair play to ye.Eastern Suburbs - you bloody beauty !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Easts 16 destroyed the evildoers from Sydney Uni 13.
Guts, determination, passion, the Beasts had it all. Great, great win against a Uni side stacked with rep talent.
Uni completely dominated possession in the first 20 minutes and racked up the phases. I thought they looked ominous and that they would inevitably wear out Easts and finish over the top of them. But Easts got the momentum back and started to beat Uni at their own game, forcing Uni to rack up the tackles and tire a bit.
To be fair, with all the changes to their side, Uni didn't click and lacked cohesion. I thought they made some half breaks but guys went themselves instead of passing.
Easts deserve a lot of credit though. They defended gallantly, they turned over a lot of possession, and they worked well together as a team. Andrew Shaw at 7 is a welcome addition to the side and he was a thorn in Waugh's side. Pat Dellitt was class at fullback and McKibbin orchestrated play well from halfback.
Randwick 36 - Gordon 34.
I am crying. Severely. And not just the odd tear bu gushes of the wet stuff. A much improved Gordon team, playing with 14 men for the last 10 minutes, were pipped at death by the Myrtle Greens scoring to tie the scores and converting to win it. The Highlanders still had time for a restart but Muppet Harvey stuffed his kickoff and it didnt go the 10.
Randwick featured a certain K Beale playing at 15 and he had a mixed game. Some sublime movements and plays, mixed up with a load of hoppy-skippy-jump (that must infuriate those around him) and some woeful defending that Gordon fully exploited for at least two of their tries (and enjoyed letting him know about it afterwards).
The Gordon pack was much better balanced this week with the absence of Dud Roodt and in my slightly biased view were the more dominant forwards on the park, even with Ben Mowen playing at 8 for the Wicks. Chris Alcock was everywhere but the ref Anthony Moyes had Gordon well and truly in his sights and the Highlanders were lucky not to lose someone to the bin earlier in the game after numerous breakdown penalties.
Interestingly, Adam Frier was wearing 16 for Randwick but never made it on to the park.
I am now going to cry into too many beers whilst watching the two lots sheep shaggers go at it followed by main game later on. Need to keep a fairly sound head - doing my NSWRU refs course tomorrow!
