Sevens Lead In and Olympics 2024

Brumby Runner

Jason Little (69)
Miss a tackle against the Fijians and it's good night nurse.

Late in the first half, leading 7 - 0, hard on attack on the Fiji line, Gonzales misses one tackle and the Fijians run away for a length of the field try. In the second half, Malouf misses a tackle out wide and it's immediately try time again. Then in the following set of plays Hutchinson misses a tackle in front and again the Fijians dot down.

Very poor restarts combined with missed tackles cost the game.

To be fair to them the Fijians had about 10kgs per man on the Aussies. Needed to be technically perfect to compete with better athletes and they wern't.

There is no way that try gets awarded against SA if he doesn't hit him high first. While there were some rough non-calls in that Bronze match they can't really complain about the high tackle which was their undoing.

And that follow on try was from a very clear forward pass not called. Another Bok try was from a tackle on Lawson that seemed to hit Lawson in the same place that Malouf got red carded for but not called. Tough day of decisions for the boys.
Agree. We needed things to go our way to clinch that one. Does anyone know what the TMO protocols are in sevens? is it the same as for the XV? when should they inject themselves? surely in the lead up to a try they review?

I've been watching some of the Volleyball and really like the challenge system, with sevens being won or lost by such fine margins I feel like we almost need something similar.

I know this is 7s but Dupont is seriously staking a GOAT of rugby claim. Awesome scenes for France in Paris.

Another couple of seasons like he's just had and I think it'd be a very strong claim. It'd be great for rugby globally if he does, rugby hasn't had that many megastars, especially in the lets say 'magician' category. Like a Federer/Messi/Senna type.

Great to see that they sold 550,000 tickets for the first eight sessions (just under 70,000 per session) with the womens' remaining sessions also supposed to be sold out. In the article below World Rugby are apparently now talking to LA and Brisbane organisers about stadium capacity given the Paris outcome. How many will Ballymore take or will they need to go for a larger venue?

Sevens in Brisbane is set for Suncorp (Ballymore for hockey). There is still plenty to be worked out around potential upgrades for Suncorp or a larger Olympic venue.

Warm up game in pools has helped, currently beating Ireland 26-0 at halftime.

Also Maddison Levi is the second coming of Lomu. Just so dominant out there.

That was fun, go girls. Really hope USA can knock NZ out for us.

how good was Caslick! They should be so proud, what a complete performance.
Yeah, easy to gush of Maddi Levi and her Hattrick performance, but Caslick was such a clear difference between that and the pool game. Took our very solid defence and weaponised it with bulk turn overs.

Honestly though, they all look like they're in career best form, an absolute joy to watch.

Tuwai is class but Dupont is like playing with a cheat code...
One thing it made me think was the top 15s guys can still dominate 7s when selected. Won't be all of them but the ones with appropriate skill sets can show up and be better than the regular 7s players. Marky couldn't be taken down by the first defender when he ran it. Toole looked threatening every time and Dupont is a video game character.

Could Aus look to release a few others post 2027 WC for the 2028 LA Olympics.
