I'm not saying its not - but this is fairly standard practice in Breaking News journalism, especially when it's just reporting the news rather than editorializing.

It's not breaking news journalism to blatantly rip off another journalist's work, like an entire article, a day later... that's called plagiarism, and it's not standard practice.

When there is legitimate breaking news, news sites will take the initial reports from news agencies such as AAP and Reuters who they have arrangements with and attribute the story to them.

Completely different.

Re Canberra:

One notable omission was Canberra, which hosted games in the 2003 Rugby World Cup.

Robinson, the inaugural captain of the ACT Brumbies, concedes the lack of adequate stadia was the main rationale for heading elsewhere.

“It's disappointing that we haven't got the stadium, I've got a few chips on my shoulders as a lot of Brumbies do, we haven't quite got the stadium we’d love to be competitive (in bidding for matches),” he explained.

“We have a wonderful rugby community playing at home in Canberra, it’s a wonderful place to play the game. It’s just we haven't got the facilities really to compete for the scale of this tournament, which is a disappointment.

Does Canberra have enough supporting rugby fans? Brumby games aren't very well attended.
Canberra has a small core of diehard fans, the problem with attendance (as all rugby supporters hear bang on about) is that GIO is shit.

Its got a pretty shit view even from premium seats in comparison to modern stadia, its cold and a wind tunnel, has shit food and amenities, the facilities for teams are shocking and its also surrounded by nothing.

What everyone wants (and honestly Barr is the only person I've actually heard say they don't) is a stadium in Civic or on the lake. Both would be walking distance from bars and restaurants in the city and I believe would increase crowd numbers as a game could be folded into a night out instead of just being a stand alone event. A 20-25k stadium with a steep seating pitch (I always think abotu AAMI in Melbourne) would be amazing.

At one point there was a plan to build the stadium in the city as part of a redone convention Centre - this would have been perfect.

Unfortunately my guess is a developer already has their eyes on the suitable land parcels in Civic

Bloody Hell.

Of course Sydney gets both semi finals, the 3rd/4th play off and the final.

Brisbane should have gotten one of the Semis so we could have a double hesder and same with the 3/4th play off.
The game needs money. Suncorp needs 20k more seats or gabba replaced. Sucks but you need the stadium capacity for those matches unfortunately.

Most likely because Suncorp is 30K less capacity

Canberra is solely losing cause of stadium I would imagine given Townsville getting which is a great result for Townsville. Nice stadium there now!
You can’t expect to win big events if you don’t invest in the infra these days
Agreed that if AAMI park was in better location in Canberra - put some games there!

So the only competitive team from Aus every year gets zero games and fucking Adelaide gets 5 games?

I know it sucks for Canberra locals .ACT govt & brumbies have a golden opportunity here to turn a negative into a silver lining not being involved wirh IRB process of setting up stadium for RWC.

could we see a brumbies vs boks or brumbies vs England warm up match the weekend before World Cup?

maybe RA could schedule a wallaby warm up match in Canberra in lead up to the Cup.

I've never been, so take your word for it, always looks cold and uninviting from the comfort of my lounge chair or the sports bar.
It doesn't seem to stop league crowds turning up though.

Comfortable rugby weather in Brisbane and Townsville in November?
Maybe for swimming and cricket....
Their games won't be that late and I'm thinking for the fans wanting to take in the sights through the base of a Schooner...

Players will be fine and deal with it. If the Scots and Irish have to pay for extra baggage for the sun screen that's their problem. Part of the game is going and winning in different conditions.

When I think of the Raiders games they often seem to get one of the Saturday/Sunday arvo time slots which is probably a more comfortable time for locals with some Sun and it suits TV as they aren't a big pull for the prime time games. Definetely help if you wanted to take kids. Suddenly that 1 ticket to a 7:30pm kick off like the Brumbies becomes the family of 4 for the Raiders.

RWC regulations require min 60,000 capacity for those games
THis is why I get angry at the Olympic bid when people are only wanting 60,000 capacity.

Brisbane should be looking at a minimum 80,000 so that we could theoretically host world cup soccer if it ever came to Australia. It should have a roof too!

Unless Brisbane has any plans on becoming an authoritarian corrupt petrostate I think you can hold your breath

Yeah the Raiders have a much bigger fan base I'd argue

Its ironic though as in my mind there is far more junior rugby union played in Canberra then league.

The Brumbies/ACTRU need to start giving free GA tickets to juniors again. I dont know why they dont do it considering the bowls are never anywhere near full at GIO.

The thing that always sticks in my mind to show GIO is a poor stadium is whenever there is an overhead/drone shot and you see how flat the whole stadium is.

Some of the best seats you would still be 20m from the fence but only 2m above ground level.

Fair call, I was purely going on the numbers, I haven't followed the NRL for the best part of a decade so am ignorant on the scheduling.
