Rugby League players who could have/could make the switch

Drug issues aside, would he even be good enough to warrant interest from any overseas clubs? I don't watch NRL so wouldn't have a clue about his on field abilities

He has a contract with a french second devision club.

He'd probably good enough to play top 14 after a season of rugby.

Sounds like it is unlikely they will take him regardless of the outcome.

From what I've heard in league circles, he might dob in other players in order to reduce the length of his ban. Some even suggest he could get it down to a one year ban.

But if he does go down this route I doubt he will have many friends in rugby league long term and as such overseas rugby will probably be his only option.

Personally I'm not a fan of these ban deals. I think being proven guilty of using PED should be an automatic life ban from all sports, only way to stamp it out.

So,the way it works ATM,is that he could be a user and a supplier to me.
Now that he has been caught,he dobs me in and will serve less time than me?(assuming I am not in a position to dob in someone else)
Shit system.

As a stool pigeon, he'll be ostracised and probably shanked at some point.

I'm assuming the dynamics of rugby league are pretty similar to prison.

Who needs ability to play on the wing in France? The wingers get two touches a game, and one of those is accidental.

NZ Herald reporting that $BW is close to signing for 3 years with the Chiefs.
News Ltd ran the same article with the heading 'Soft SBW set to turn to rugby'. They have subsequently changed the heading but they're bracing themselves and looking for a way to put down rugby.

I read the article, if you read between the lines, it is about some of the vicious play that is par for the course in the NRL - things like the cannonball tackle. SBW, as a star of the game, is a particular target. Nothing like maiming a star, is there?

Well, you have to see it from there perspective. First Folau chose Rugby over League not because the money was better but because he's actually enjoying himself and now it appears SBW will be returning to Rugby for good because, you know, he actually enjoys playing Rugby as well. Two supreme athletes turning their backs on the self proclaimed "greatest game" would be a massive blow to League's collective ego.

If true this is awesome news, esp if NZRU solve their Nonu problem by packing him off to France post-4N as touted in a stuff.co.nz article. Certainly a better signing than Benji Marshall (much as I love the guy both as a player & a frontman for his sport) IMO. A season of S15, potentially 3 Tests v the Poms to see if he's still got it, which given his NRL form you'd have to think he does, see what happens after that...

A real chance for RWC 2015, not so sure about Rio though as he's got pretty much no 7s behind him & there's nothing to be gained by having him there for recognition factor as I suspect he'd be anonymous alongside the likes of Bolt, James etc.

For the benefit of the inevitable haters, there's a reason it's not just SBW's current club that want to bend the rules to keep him in the NRL. Why? Cos he puts bums on seats at grounds & in lounge rooms; brings the punters in for sponsors functions; the fans love him esp the kids & ladies every code really wants to get on board (die-hards like me can safely be taken for granted); he shifts mechandise (Roosters 12 shirt apparently #1 seller this year); oh & he can play a bit, too :-/

So is Sandor Earl still heading to France or is he now banned from all professional sports?

I think it depends on who bans him: as I recall a WADA ban covers all sports who have signed up to their charter, which includes Rugby. If it's an NRL-only ban then I guess it's up to the consciences of the blokes running the Club he signed for... probably the respective parties lawyers too so god knows what the final result might be.

As I understand it, SBW went back to the NRL somewhat reluctantly, claiming to have had a "handshake agreement" with Politis - what that was about, who knows?

Folau would have gone back, except that the salary cap got in the way originally. Now he has had the chance to enjoy a bit of the big rugby code, the world is his oyster.

Two stars. The NRL have got a lot more big names. And some pretty good little names on the way up (apparently).
