Rugby League players who could have/could make the switch

JSRF10 - I thought Craig Gower did alright as a test 1st 5 for Italy. Couldn't stand the guy but he was a talented league player that played much of his career as 2nd fiddle to Joey Johns. They were very similar players though, but Johns got first dibs at Origin and Kangaroo jersies.

I think Benji's flair could go well with the Blues back-line if he got the hang of rugby. He's a talented playmaker and it would be mad to see him in the game. His defence is a bit of a liability though

He was ok, mixed the good with the bad I thought. To be honest he always looked like a league half back playing union to me

The Blues seem to be struggling for support in Auckland, whereas the Worriers are on a bit of a band-wagon.

I know that the purists will disagree, but signing Bungee might actually be good for the commercial health of the franchise.

How do you reckon Josh Papalli would go in 15 man code???

I'd have him pegged as a prop & obviously you'd have to teach him from step 1 in terms of scrummaging (unless he played the game as a junior)

But with a bit of conditioning for the 80 minute game I reckon he'd be a fantastic prospect in Union.

No. We have enough problems teaching our own props how to survive in the scrum, let alone somebody who has never played rugby in his life (I assume).

Gower had his moments for Italy. One glorious effort stood out. Took to the ball to the line, drew defenders, popped the ball to Kaine Robertson who scored. But there wasn't enough of it. I always had the feeling he was playing to orders, kick the pill rather than run with it. When he ran it he looked good.

The real pity was that his skills and experience were lost to Italian rugby at club level. His ratbag behaviour days were behind him. Nick Mallett pleaded with the two Rabies franchises - one of them Aironi in those days - to sign him. They didn't. He returned to France. He could have been a very good mentor.

Where would the 'Tahs even get the money to sign him and why would they sign another 5-8th with KB (Kurtley Beale) allegedly coming in?

I can't see Marshall being a chance at playing for the Tahs unless he is willing to take an average Super Rugby salary which seems highly unlikely.

At least at the Blues he'd be a great selling point. Depending on how he goes, he'd put plenty of bums on seats for at least half the season and possibly the full season if he does any good at all.
