Pray tell, tranquility, what role the ARU played in the recruitment of JacPot from the Bulls? And Phipps's and Beale's moves up from the Rebels. Add in Hoiles's left-field selection, Chapman's prodigal son act from Japan and Lance's departure from Queensland and I'm stuck to see what the ARU have done to help the Tahs. Where they COULD'VE assisted is a coupla rakes.

I'm all ears.

Rakes as in hookers? I reckon we've got three good ones.

Tranq's post is a bit weird. I think he's referring to the Tahs getting more/bigger top-ups, but with so many players absolutely on fire, you'd have to think that them getting big top-ups is pretty well earned.

thanks, Lindo. i get very tired of reading and hearing the whinges from supporters of other teams that the ARU somehow favours the Tahs through tops-up. is it too hard to understand that a Wallaby's top-up is the same regardless of which team he represents? if, for example, QLand wanted to re-re-poach Folau, it would have to compete with the Tahs on the grounds of salary paid by that state, living conditions, playing conditions, coaching team, off-field opportunities and other things. the top-up would not change by one cent. why is it so hard to understand that rugby players born in Sydney, educated in Sydney, grown up in Sydney and with family and friends there prefer to live in Sydney and play for the Tahs?

I'm pretty certain that not all the top up amounts are the same. They are negotiated between player and ARU in the same way they are for Super Rugby contracts between player and franchise.

On the Kepu one did anybody else get bothered by the way the video ref discussed the accuracy and effectiveness of Kepu's punches? Maybe it's just me but I don't think you deserve to go unsanctioned for attempting to punch a guy in the face just because you are a shit punch. You either have intentionally punched or you haven't.

Compare this to the Moore incident, where Moore clearly showed a level of restraint to just punch Quirk in the mid-section, when he would have been defenceless against any attempt at the head.

That's my take on the difference in the sanctions anyway.

Again the perpetrator (this time of a late hit/clean out) is ignored and the retaliation is punished

And again I say, send them both to the bin, stop the niggle/cheap shot and the reason for retaliation goes away everytime

One was a perfectly legal hit late after the whistle. Could be easily construed as an error, or failure to hear the whistle. Keep in mind Kepu hadn't stopped competing at the breakdown himself. If you are going to take offence to perfectly legal shots, you are far too sensitive.

Did you watch the game? The reds gave their all, particularly the pack. I agree with Stan (and most) that the effort v the 4s was lacking but it wasn't last night. We were just let down by skill, option taking and fitness again.
Yep I watched game Reg, perhaps I being harsh, but got pissed off when I saw the what appeared to be play fighting by Hooper and Gill, not what I expect from players trying to win games, remember how pissed off a huge amount of Wallaby supporters were when they saw Beale and Ioane laughing with All Blacks AFTER a game, well this was during game!!

Sam Kerevi looks good. Get him into the Wallaby 23 on the Spring Tour coming on late in the game as an impact player anywhere from 12-14.

I understand the sentiment but this is so unlikely at this stage.

The EOYT isn't really any different to any other test series now in that there are no midweek matches so the squad size is similar to a domestic series.

With Speight becoming eligible we're potentially going to see one of AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and Kuridrani pushed out of the starting XV so it seems unlikely that a young guy like Kerevi who has only played a couple of Super Rugby games is going to get a look in.

Yeah it's too soon for Kerevi to play Wallabies, though I wont be surprised if he gets a call up to whatever wider training squad McKenzie calls before the start of the Rugby Championship, given there's a bit of a lack of depth at outside centre atm.

Let's just let him focus on performing well consistently in Super Rugby first. This is why young players go off the boil. They get anointed as Wallabies 3 games into their career.

WTF?

I agree, its too early. He had one cracker of a game strolling through soft defence (Force), and then on the weekend really looked out of his depth with very soft turnovers and terrible hands. I am sure he will develop well after a season or two, but based on a great game and a not so great game, I think the Wallabies will be looking for a bit more consistency.

Don't forget Godwin & Inman play the same way too, they have just been in the cauldron a bit longer.

"One was a perfectly legal hit late after the whistle." Love it. That's going straight to the pool room. I'll put it next to ".....get your retaliation in first".

I agree that whether Beale jumped or not is an absolute but there is a large range between keeping your feet firmly planted on the ground and trying to hurdle the defender.

Beale was only just off the ground after trying to execute a pass above the defender arriving to tackle him.

Lifting tackles have been by far the most focused on area of dangerous play in recent years. It has been made incredibly clear that a defender has the ultimate responsibility not to put a player in a dangerous position almost regardless of the tackled player being partially responsible. It isn't nearly good enough to be able to say that the only reason the player was flipped over is because their momentum was going upwards when they went into the tackle.

I completely understand what you're saying but a clear choice has been made that the defender is responsible and has to avoid putting the attacking player in a dangerous position in the tackle.

Whether or not that is the direction from the authorities it doesn't make it right. Johnson made a normal everyday tackle - it was Beale's actions that put him in that position and it should be recognised as such.

If we don't then next thing we will see players jumping into tackles to try and earn penalties and have opposition players yellow carded.

Well Lindomner we can't all be perfect like you must have clearly been and not be able to stop on a dime in the heat of battle. As I noted, Kepu was clearly playing on, otherwise Beau would have hit fresh air too.

Lighten up, TWaS, I was highlighting the humour in your previous remark. You can see it, can't you?
