Did they bring the time of the hame forward? I did end up coming in, I rang yesterday and they said kick off 6:30, turns out it was 5:30.

I went along with my wife - who was impressed to get carded when she tried to buy a drink (she's 32!).

Interesting trial - not a lot to be gleaned from it performance-wise due to the conditions but there was some good play by both sides. CFS had a very impressive break which bodes well for the season, and DP was probably MotM for mine, always looked dangerous and his mere presence allowed Sorovi to score. Stewart looked assured at 10. Slipper's definitely put on some bulk which was good to see. The Red team seemed to be most of the First XV, the Whites were mostly development squad or new players, with DP and Thor for starch. JP Smith looked good and got a good ruck turnover which looks promising.

Most of the squad who weren't playing were there in some capacity, including Rodda, Lance and the Jailbird. Didn't see Nabuli or Lucas, or unsurprisingly Quade.

Also there was a Polish women's rugby team, I assume a Sevens team, who were chummy with BT and went on the field after the game for a photo op with Korczyk - not sure how much Polish Korczyk actually speaks but it was a nice touch and they looked pretty excited!

Lucas came on for the Red team in 22 replacing Kerevi. Nabuli was there - cast on his arm so not playing.

Yeah 22 Red was definitely Isaac Lucas - much closer in stature to Matt Lucas than Ben Lucas. Genuinely concerned for his safety when he disappeared under a maul of about 10 players towards the end there, but he got up again.

was Isaac Lucas I believe, according to the team sheets at least

Gee they look similar don't they? Thought I saw Ben at half time go out on the field along with a few of the rehab unit (Lance, Rodda, Nabuli) and assumed that it was then him that came on in the 2nd half. i didn't realise that there was more than one in the squad. I thought that the Kerevi - CFS combination looked pretty potent, and Perese was looking very hard to stop. I know Maranta gets a bit of stick but he had a really good run building on the Perese break I think that ended up with the Stewart try. The 10 for White - Teti Tala looked good - I'm not familiar with him.

My eyesight is not what it used to be but Red 15 carved through and put Stewart away in the second half, beautiful bit of work. Imagine my shock when I realised it was Maranta. He has put in a huge off season by the looks of things.

Isaac Lucas played a season of Prem Grade last year straight out of school and as stated is as tough as nails! How did the 13 from the White team, young Jordan, go?

Higgers looks to be hobbling early on and was pretty slow to track Sorovi for his try

I was wondering what happened with that try, i think the real fault there was Caleb Timu. He was playing blindside and was far too slow to break away, Higgers actually did ok to break from 8 and get across.
You can almost see Higgers have words with Timu afterwards

Yep 6 nowhere to be seen, Higgers couldn't cover it but
Major blunder by Red 13 CFS didn't make tackle on Sorevi or anyone, dumb football. Yes he made a nice run off a short Pass but didn't finish it, running sideways without straighting didn't help. His defence like that will lose you games.
I know it was a trial but I came away very despondent. Felt Worse when I watched the QRU game "highlights".
Glimmers of hope but the youth in the squad are very young indeed.

your comments criticizing CFS run and overall standard of play from trial is disappointing and as donkeyish(eeeorre) as this wet and cold weather. Cheerup mate, REDS look mighty fine from fans res[ponse. The youth(most of white team) did exemplary well. Even young debutant Jordan Pataia earned praise from coach BT for a spendid defensive effort on the more accomplished and experienced pairing of CFS & SK . :)

.

CFS was marked up on Paia'au, and whoever the winger outside of him should have been covering Marantra. You need to trust you inside defenders, CFS did the right thing by staying out on Paia'aua, Timu was the one who faulted there he should have easily marked Sorovi.
