You people are having a laugh, I suppose Australia's newest governor general's judgement is questionable and opinion is worthless because he too was a board member during those years..

No one has commented on his performance at Thiess,or IQ or wherever else he is a director.
Just the ARU,where he joined in 2010 when they made $7M and were worth $29M.
They have lost $26M and 90% of their net worth in the following 2 years.
God knows what happened in 2013, because that result is yet to be admitted to.
I understand the original criticism, was that Eales and the board were remiss in paying JON $2.3M under these circumstances, which I find to be a reasonable assessment.
For the zillionth time, the ARU board would have paid JON out according to the terms of his contract. They would not have paid him a cent more than he was legally entitled to. Let us give them credit for not being absolute imbeciles.
Whatever blame accrues for the size of his payout should be directed to the board members who were there at the time that he was being recruited.
We are a pro team, we need to win now, recruiting and developing players is great, but this should not be done in Super rugby to the detriment of the team. There must be plenty of raw material in Queensland that could be developed. They have been dominating inter state age group footy for a long time. Work on the organic talent to make it gooder.
this is the darkest days of qld rugby ever..
Not really. Its the same effect as when you walk inside (at work) after being in nice bright sunshine. It looks all dark and dingy, but it isn't really, just no where near as nice as being outside in the sunshine.

Now we have the cattle and are playing like this.
Eales replaced Cosgrove.
But in any event,if he was still on the Board then yeah,he would also be liable to criticism. What people do,or have done outside of their Board role is irrelevant, when evaluating their performance as a Board member.
Unless you believe losing $26M and 90% of their net assets in two years was such a good result, the outgoing CEO deserved a performance bonus of nearly $1M(which was a quarter of their net worth!)
