Higgers is a seagull and the Reds are better off without him. Despite what he is achieving with the Rebels, his playing style does not suit the Reds.

There must be plenty of raw material in Queensland that could be developed. They have been dominating inter state age group footy for a long time. Work on the organic talent to make it gooder.

Yes, and he should never have been involved in the HC negotiations or HC selection process once RG was in the frame in any way as, with him as QRU board member and RG's agent, there's a massive, obvious conflict of interest. Every sane set of good principles for board conduct and governance prescribes how such conflict situations should be managed.

Around the time of the early 2012 announcement re RG coming to the Reds, the Aus rugby media made clear that C White was involved in the RG finding and securing process and the QRU certainly did not deny it.

White is not Graham's agent. Just a very close friend.

Graham's case is more cronyism than commercial interests.

Might be just me but I think there's a couple of reasons the Reds aren't firing this year. The first is, as had been talked about here, RG has a very conservative Deans game plan. You don't take the Harlem Globetrotters and turn them into desk clerks do you? The second thing I think is missing the big ball running forward who can make good gains in the close channels. Radike and Higgers are massive losses over the past 2 years that have had a bigger impact on this side than even the reds would like to admit.

I actually think that the Reds are / have been trying to play a style of Jake-ball this year, particularly with their kicking anything away up to, and even beyond, halfway. Anyone agree / disagree?

Really, OK. But what I said above was widely reported in April 2012 as true, e.g. this from Bret Harris in The Australian on April 20, 2012:

Graham's manager Chris White, of International Quarterback, sits on the QRU board, while two of his closest friends, former Wallabies Tim Horan and John Eales, who sits on the ARU board, are hugely influential in Queensland and Australian rugby.

At the very least as I recall it was also then reported that White was 'giving advice' to RG re his potential appointment as Head Coach. If indeed he was, this should definitely not have been the case in what should have been a formal, properly conducted very senior recruitment process solely in the interests of the QLD rugby playing and attending public who fund the game (directly and indirectly).

'Rugby cronyism' and its introverted, self-serving preference for 'rugby mates' and 'trusted associates' to be found positions of high influence and prestige on Aus RU boards has been a massive blight upon Aus rugby's ability to gain the type of objective excellence and sports management executive experience we badly needed post the amateur era.

Brett Harris was wrong. He fixed his mistake in a (much) later article.

First, incorrectly claims White is Graham's manager:
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/spo...s-coaching-coup/story-e6frg7vo-1226333657392#

Second, fixed to now claim close friendships:
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/spo...o-lose-position/story-e6frg7vo-1226678959738#

Eales wrote a rebuttal on the first claim, repeated incorrectly by Spiro, here:
http://www.theroar.com.au/2012/05/03/roar-exclusive-john-eales-explains-his-role-in-the-rugby-media/

Naturally, Eales is defending his friend Graham.

The reason I asked if John Ealses and Tim Horan have criticised Graham at all on The Rugby Club is that they are both close friends of Graham.

I think Tim Minchin's wisdom may prevail in this case .

It couldn't be an artefact of confirmation bias
A product of groupthink,
A mass delusion,
An Emperor's New Clothes-style fear of exclusion

How many glasses of red wine and Jazz cigarettes had had at this point? I don't understand what point you are trying to make, much less why I would be shouting it down.

Really? Wow. I made a joke about him being like 35 this week. Turns out I'm wrong and not funny.

He's got the face of a 35 year old porn star from the 80s so I can't really blame you.

Still kind of fucking with my head that we could have been in the same year at school together.

For all the shit I've given him about ball security and decision making he's barely half a year older than Aidan, wow.

They were actually the successive Australian schoolboy fullbacks.

Given the quality of Horans commentary, I turn off whenever he speaks and ignore what he writes. An all time great player but....

As for Eales, he failed to attend to the unfolding financial cataclysm and vet the extravagances of JON when in a position of power and authority at the ARU. So I don't really take any notice of anything he says either. An all time great player but......

Hang on,what do you mean do more?
His performance as a player has zero relevance to his performance as a director.

Are you referring to my comment? If you are I hope you are taking the piss.

We were pointing out, that Gnostic point was a tad ludicrous.

Just for context, John Eales was Australia's Sudoku champion for a while.

Yeah I was referring to your comment, and no taking the piss.
How is is ludicrous to suggest that his performance as an ARU Board member has been less than stellar?

What do you think the Reds team would be in 5 years? I know this is a broad and (worthless?) question to some extent. However, it's something I think about quite often when I watch Queensland play each week!

So I take it that Thiess is the next company to go down the gurgler? Seeing as John Eales is on the Board and all. You lot will clutch at anything you can get your hands on.

Hugh Adams articulated the point far better than I did with his article: Time to call it: Reds succession plan a failure.

I appreciate you not shouting me down - some already had!

No one has commented on his performance at Thiess,or IQ or wherever else he is a director.
Just the ARU,where he joined in 2010 when they made $7M and were worth $29M.
They have lost $26M and 90% of their net worth in the following 2 years.
God knows what happened in 2013, because that result is yet to be admitted to.
I understand the original criticism, was that Eales and the board were remiss in paying JON $2.3M under these circumstances, which I find to be a reasonable assessment.
