I would have Gill as captain as I think a fetcher being captain is an advantage.
A fetcher plays close to the rule of the game and as such is likely to be sent off or binned on a regular basis.
I have always thought that a ref does their best to keep a captain on the field. Certainly not always, but I think this happens. I would think that Sir Ritchie had this advantage on more than one occasion, Phil Waugh too

I heard (pretty reliable source) that the new Rebels prop Lahiff was originally looking to sign with the reds and they had some interest. I think he made his intentions of moving to AUS pretty clear and the rebs just snapped him up quicker.

I'm really worried about our recruiting for the upcoming year from outside the Reds academy and even QLD. Either Graham is steering the Reds towards a more defense-oriented game plan or the Reds recruiting has been the reason behind a distinct drop in dynamism within the squad, particularly within the back row and back three.
The fact that we're still playing Samo when they want to have a big and athletic 6/8 is a symptom of this I believe. Quirk/Gill/Schatz are all great players in their own right but Schatz and Quirk are on the smaller side for their positions and are really grinders who play tight and have decent on-ball skills. Why haven't the Reds been able to find a replacement for Samo, especially after letting Higgers go south?
The Reds are going to miss Digby big time. Even though his knees are a bit bungled he is still one of the best players around in terms of getting over the gain line. Davies does an okay version of this if Cooper/Genia put him into even a small gap by using his speed, but he can't run into 3 guys and go over the line or step/fend through traffic like Digby can either.
Shipperley is ice cold this year and becoming injury prone. I don't like the sound of recurring back injuries one bit.
Jono Lance is solid but not spectacular. He hurts for pace at times and has issues stepping other wings and fullbacks. He is a large drop in quality from P. Hynes.
Letting Moz go was unfortunate in retrospect but at the time nobody knew Digby would be leaving QLD. He's still noticeably raw so getting more regular starts at the Force will be good for his development.

I know. I was talking about the recruiting leading up to this year leaving us with the current crop of players we have and the Reds' approach seemingly needs to change.
CFS has been playing infinitely better at 13 than he has during his cameos on the wing, I'd like to see him stay there. It is his natural position.
Toua hasn't done anything to impress in any of his Super Rugby appearances so far. In fact, he's had a few shockers..primarily involving positioning and defense at 15.

Expect a prop to be signed from club rugby and expect at least two to young props from the brisbane comp to be signed to numerous S15 teams..........details will be made more clear later

He 'can'.
A lot of Digby's line bending comes from his ability to step through traffic. He's a lot more than pure power. If you catch the field-level clips of Digby when they play them his step is unbelievably fast. I'm serious it's the quickest sidestep I have ever seen on film from just about any player with the exception of a few, like Caucau.

We should have snapped up Ruan Smith (or even JP Smith) when we had them playing for GPS.
Would Pettowa Parraka be one who is being looked at? Kirwan Sanday is someone I'd definatly be pushing for, been one of the best tightheads in the competition this year.

Yeah, I seem to recall him being used there - but wasn't sure. Given next year we are after a power winger, I thought he might be an option.
Digby is going to be hard to replace - sure, but if we look hard enough I am sure we will get someone with some attributes that are also effective (if not at the same level obviously). Where Digby goes around/through guys, I would be equally happy for Nigel to go over the top of them if required.
In regards to toua guys i think a lot of ppl forget the kid has had 2 knee reconstructions and last yr struggled a lot with his hamstrings!
Its always underestimated the effort it takes to come back from huge injury layoffs (remember cooper took a while to find his feet again) and play to the ability you were at previously but i was down at brothers on the weekend and he certainly was impressive for easts! Set a try up with a lovely pass, scored a nice one himself and in general was threatening everytime he had the ball. He also does a fair bit of their kicking with his left foot!
But if hes able to transfer his form for easts to the reds i think he would be a good option at 15 for us!
