Trying to piece together the Genia injury issue... Frisby trained with the Gallopers all week with the intention of starting at halfback, only to be a last minute exclusion from the side that defeated Souths. Sounds like Reds management were aware of Genia's condition prior to kickoff on the weekend and had Frisby sit out to cover their asses but makes me wonder why Genia even took the field for Wests if thats the case.

Either that or Frisby has some phantom injury which would suck.

I don't think that was the case, it's probably that the Reds S&C staff felt he'd been overdone in the week or that the field wasn't up to standard for their previous players or something like that. It wouldn't be because of Genia.

It might be worth covering Frisby with Lucas (who will start at 10) but expecting Frisby to play 80 baring injury.

I assume he did it in his second half appearance in club footy yesterday? Unfortunately, that will just add to the argument against top rep players playing club footy.

Frisby will need to step up. And we might need someone who will be around in 2015 on the bench.

But the top rep players do need to maintain match fitness. If Ginea hadn't of had a club game that would have been 4 weeks off the playing field.
It is also good for clubs that there professional players can play the odd game.

According to the G&GR front page:

Makes you wonder why he played the club game if there was doubt on an injury being healed?

Maybe after two weeks of non-play he might have wanted to self determine on whether to play on and bear the injury or go to the butcher... the latter was the result.

Lucky Frisby sat out the GPS game then!

Jonah Placid has signed with the rebels until 2016! This makes no sense. I spoke to Jonah in March and all he could talk about was how excited he was to pay back the reds for giving him his opportunity so young and how stoked he was to be a reds player in the future.

If he's been sent away because the admin are desperate for both JOC (James O'Connor) and Karmichael Hunt I will be very unhappy.

TK, JP is one of the most talented young backs - and a 15 at that - that I have recently seen anywhere in Australian junior rugby.

When I first encountered him playing for TGS v Churchie (at that superb TGS main oval) at GPS 1st XV level I was blown away by what a stunning player he was then and I felt sure he could soon reach Super ranks, and potentially higher.

I agree, but to play devil's advocate for a second - imagine the crowd numbers you'd get at Suncorp with both those guys in the team (and performing).

agreed, his performance in that Aussie Schoolboys win over NZ Schoolboys a couple of years ago, when he was head and shoulders the player of the match, showed his class at the higher level too.

He is very high quality.

Not to mention running rings around Premier Grade as a first year school leaver. Scoring a ripping try in the grand final no less.

Even if it is true about JOC (James O'Connor) and Hunt, I see them really as wing and centre, rather then a 15. Why the Reds are throwing away young 15's is beyond any reasoning I can think of.

and to be frank, one of them is going to HAVE to play fullback. There aint many other options, as far as we are aware.

Real shame to see Placid go, I would've liked to have seen him play the last few games of this year at 15 with an eye to the future. Having played against him, and getting burnt by him, at a schoolboy level I've seen first hand how quick he is and what an eye for the game. Hardly the first mistake QRU management have made this year.

I feel like the Reds have been caught short a bit by not turning over their roster quickly enough after 2011 (until now) and having a few long term injury problems.

A player like Placid probably deserves an EPS contract this year rather than just being in the wider training squad and perhaps this has happened because he's been caught behind a couple of older injured players like Toua.

Queensland will always produce more young talent than the Reds can sign. They need to work out a better way of making sure the absolute cream of the crop are locked in early through the EPS but also be more willing to let players go quicker if they don't deliver (or potentially miss a lot of rugby through injury). For every player you have contracted there is an opportunity cost regarding the player you've missed out on and that needs to be carefully weighed up.

It's a difficult conundrum and something every team struggles with. The Tahs for example had Greg Peterson on the books for a few years and he was injured through most of that time. In the interim they've missed out on Adam Coleman and Ollie Atkins who have both easily surpassed him and now Peterson is leaving and we're terribly short of locks.

The Reds and the Tahs produce more than they can sign. I think, and I say it with respect, humility and blah blah blah (and I'll get flogged for saying it) is that we have not produced absolutely stand out talent for awhile. - that have performed consistently at the high level of Super 15.

ATM we need to recruit some "specials" from without

and now the ****ing Rebels have signed Shipperley, taking them to 3 reds backs. With Cam Crawford they've signed a boatload of backline talent
