Hmmm, it's a bold move to say the Clan game was the best Reds game of the year. I wouldn't say so, anyway. Lucas didn't outperform some of Cooper's performances anyway from some of the games throughout this year.

I would say that Lucas would do a better job than a parachuted in Michalak, having trained in that position for a while.
I agree I just meant you got the win and seemed like could be. a watershed moment

Sad how Dick will say we're not interested in players but won't mention who we've signed to cover the departing.

They are sticking to their guns on the big release with a final sqaud later on. From the ABC today: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-06-...est-in-karmichael-hunt-/5544124?section=sport

The lack of news regarding player recruitment for next season and the confirmation of those leaving have left many Reds supporters frustrated and questioning the direction the franchise is taking.
But Graham has called for patience, outlining the Reds - upon Carmichael's command - will make announcements about their 2015 roster when they feel it is appropriate.
"I think Jim's been pretty clear, he's got a plan in his head for the organisation the way he wants to deliver that to the supporters," he said.
"We've been pretty disciplined so far at that. In terms of the guys going, we always said there was going to be change and there needs to be change so we're comfortable with that and all of that is part of the way we have gone about planning for 2015.
"In terms of who's coming in, that will be revealed when Jim is comfortable the time is right."

While it's frustrating to not know I understand the desire to wait until the end of the season before starting the hype for the next. Carmichael has done an excellent job revitalising QLD rugby as a business and at this point I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Looks like Gill is fit again, if he gets through this weeks game v The Rebels he'll be off to join the 7's squad for the Comm games in Glasgow.

Could then kick on and play the first bit of the world series, but apparently that's still to be be decided..

Gill heading off to the Comm Games squad just frustrates me as a Reds fan. And probably frustrates the Reds as an organisation too.

It's like the ARU has come in & said "your season is shot so Will's going in for surgery and we'll have Liam for the Comm Games. We'd really like it if you could let the Tahs win in the last round and get a home final too".

It could also be at the request of players as well Karmicheal might want to wait till after the AFL season. JOC (James O'Connor) might want to be around. Others might be in the middle of a finals battle. Or no ones signed yet and are waiting for to get the ink.

At least they have let you know the process.

There was an agreement between the ARU and the Super Rugby sides before the season that if your team is out of playoffs their players must be available for CW games. Seems reasonable to me.

Given that you are an unreasonable man, I'm not sure how much water that holds. ;)

I'm ok with Gill playing 7's to be honest. Beau's going great at 7, our season is done anyway and Liam may well pick up some extra skills playing the 7 man game that he wouldn't playing 15's.

Is it the case that the 7s team will stay together in October for the IRB series matches which count as Olympic qualifiers?

That would put Gill out of the frame for the RC and spring tour squads.

If the roles were reversed (and QC (Quade Cooper) was fit), do you not think it would be Bernard Foley heading off to play 7s and Liam Gill staying in Queen sland for their finals tilt?

That does not give justification though for the season ticket holders who for their money expect the best team available from the squad to play.
Niggling injuries I can understand as the player only knows how he is faring - but to pull out for another competition from any Super 15 side does let the fans down - yes even the Waratahs Braveheart81.

It seems to me like Gill has been written off as a RWC option already. It seems a bit odd to me. At his best he pushes all of the other guys in the 7 spot and with Pocock's injury issues I would have thought he would have been a valuable member of the squad. Also most of his Wallaby appearances have been playing 6 off the bench as he is a viable lineout option so he makes a good bench option.

Jets,

Gill hasn't done anything to cement himself as a wallaby. Further to that his 2014 has been indifferent. Form down a little at times and injured the remainder.

Of course he would drop out of calculations unless that changes.

I didn't think his form was down, but you're right he has been out through injury for a large chunk of S15. Still he must be pretty happy, he still gets to represent his country.

Hodgo deserves his spot at the moment.

He's been playing well, Pocock is out, and Gill was injured for most of the Supe.

But I didn't think Hodgson was necessarily a lock-in for TRC and EOYT squads.

Looks like he is now, though.

His form was nowhere near where it was in 2013. That is down by definition.

A good Super Rugby campaign next year will change that.

I'd say it's almost a certainty, that he won't be carried as any more than a back up 7 though. Yeah he jumps and has subbed on as 6. Matt Hodgson also jumps and has started at 6,7 and 8 throughout his career with similar and consistent success throughout yet he didn't even make the bench. Link has made it pretty clear what he wants on the pine.

It's unfortunate but is it really that bad? One player from the side has been chosen to represent Australia at the Commonwealth Games. It's not like this happens week in week out.

Last year, the Wallabies squad had to sit out a Super Rugby game for the Lions tour. Is that unfair on season ticket holders?

I don't see any reason that this would be true at this stage. Injury meant he missed the June internationals squad and if Hodgson is healthy it will probably mean he's also behind Hodgson for the Rugby Championship. I don't think you can read anything into it beyond that though.

What has changed from last year is that there is now more depth in the backrow so coaches will be far less inclined to pick two 7s in a matchday 23.
