I'm fairly certain had Gill not been injured he would've gotten Hodgson's spot. Gill is a safe bet for the RWC squad and will probably be the starting 7 against Fiji and the other team in the pools.

I'd say it's almost a certainty, that he won't be carried as any more than a back up 7 though. Yeah he jumps and has subbed on as 6. Matt Hodgson also jumps and has started at 6,7 and 8 throughout his career with similar and consistent success throughout yet he didn't even make the bench. Link has made it pretty clear what he wants on the pine.

I would have thought that's a given - for Gill, and for that matter, Hodgo.

The opportunity for those guys to play 6 at Test level (even off the bench) should be very low. I'd bloody hope so, anyway.

From memory Gill has only ever played 6 at test level. Considering he is a specialist 7 and has played all his rugby there it's a bit of an anomaly.

I'm not saying Gill should be in the Wallabies squad currently, he has be injured for a large part of the year and Hodgo has been playing really well, but surely he would be in consideration and should have been given the opportunity.

That being said I'm happy for him to get the opportunity to play at the Comm Games. The ARU are obviously keeping him in the loop for the Olympics.

He replaced Hooper (and therefore played 7) in the two tests he played on the EOYT.

He's been on the bench in every test he has played. If he ever starts a test you can guarantee he'll be picked at 7.

Yes, no denying that.

Those tests were late at night so you'll have to forgive me for missing that he came on at 7.

Title is a lot stronger than the actual content. His only complaint was that he didn't feel they had been notified when the player was.

I think he sounds pretty pissed off with the way the ARU have gone about it actually.

As you would if people were calling for your sacking & you're sitting on a 4 & 9 record. You're not going to love seeing one of your stars poached.

But article seems to suggest it may have been Carmichael not keeping Graham in the loop.

He just seems to say it's inappropriate they weren't told the same time the player was. Doesn't seem to knock the decision, just the way he felt kept out of the loop. Oddly didn't start Gill this week anyway though.

Was reading an article earlier, which I can't find now. RG will be on Rugby HQ tonight re Reds and their recruitment for next year. Doubt he'd be revealing any names but maybe shed some light?

Also Rebels have some big news to announce on Rugby HQ, which Reds player have they signed now?

Given it's meant to be two players they are announcing this week, probably the Fainga'as.

if i were the coach i reckon the faingaas would have been some of the players i would have let go. they probably cost a lot of $, saia frustrates me and ant isn't the centre that is going to win you the s15 title anymore

Anthony Fainga'a is not incapable of being a championship winning 13 any more. Anthony was always the straight man in the line up though, he did that extremely well. You will never have a backline with 7 absolute stars. He fills the straight man job extremely well, is a good leader and a great defender. You also need these players.

He will never be a stand out in a lesser team as his ability isn't good enough. The game hasn't passed him, but the Reds roster is no longer at a stage where he is filling in a gap well.

Don't like seeing more go.

Chibba can step up easily into the start team.
Hopefully we can field a full team in 2015 otherwise we might have to get a couple of opposition players to play for us, a bit junior footy.

In all fairness with both being Wallabies and starting quality players I'm surprised we've managed to keep Fainga'a and Hanson to the detriment of one or the other for so long really. It's one of those things that are good to have, but you know they really can't last forever.

A great win last night over the Rebels but which backs come into the 23 squad against the Force re: the following extract from Fox Rugby?

"Shipperley and centre Anthony Fainga'a (calf) going down means the Reds do not have enough backs to fill seven starting spots and three bench positions for next weekend’s visit to Perth."
