Also, I would back Pocock to pretty much humilate anyone in the NFL in any kind of physical contest. My man love for The Cock is quite strong today I must admit.

You've outdone yourself Reddy!. I guess we all love The Cock around here, just some love Cock more than others.

You can always count on Cock ruining the oppositions ball.

yes i get what LG(Bruce Ross) is saying though, max bench press has little relevance when it comes to tying in with core strength..
I realise this is from a Mungo but he is a QLDer, I wonder if he could have been a handy player in the forwards?

Taylor says the weight loss will allow him to further maximize his power.

Unlike his team mates who spend this time of the year busily training in the weight room, the Queensland Origin star will be lightening his load with an enormous 180kg bench press record for his club.

Dave Taylor is a massive unit, i cant really see where he would fit into a rugby union team though..every position in the forward pack is a bit to specialised for a league player who has never played union before
I assume that was meant to read "an anonymous", TOCC?

that would be the sensible thing to do

A 180 bench is pretty huge, I'd be a bit surprised to see many people manage it if even for a 1rep max effort. If Sanchez can manage 175 I'll be very impressed but I'd guess that's more his squat weight.

That is either an excellent Max Bench or a very poor Max Squat.

I've also heard Genia is a very impressive bencher.

Some little guys are strong. The Broncos used to do a test where you lie face down on the bench and pull the weight towards the bench, Alfie Langer held the record for this test!

The bench pull has a fair degree of specifity for rugby; the bench press has almost none.

I know 180 is pretty huge but I could have sworn I heard that Genias pb was 175kgs on the bench.

Genia benched 170kg which was the same as Pocock & Ioane. So if Taylor were a Wallaby he'd have the best bench press in the team.

I want to see some of the league player's stats. I believe Gallen can do 180kgs and is one of the strongest in league. In fact I reckon Gallen would make a fantastic hooker.

As relevant as bicep curls for when you're picking up and using a water bottle at halftime..

BR said it had no relevance, im just saying there is a relevance, no need to be a smartarse

id expect Alexander or Maafu to be able to bench at least close to that weight

I think I recall watching an interview where Alexander is being given some crap by the Brumbie boys for having a sub-par bench and I remember big Caldwell had the 2nd worst bench at the Tahs.

Some people are just going to be genetically weak in certain areas, doesn't mean that aren't well conditioned.

I have always been crap at bench press. I believe that it is because I have long arms. Levers and stuff you smart guys will be able to explain it better.

Dave Hala has just done 185kg during Broncos training which is a club record.

This article on weighted pull-ups also has some interesting info on the development of strength but is more focussed on league players (Broncos) than union.

Got it from Dan Baker's website - Dan has been Broncos strength coach for 15 years http://www.danbakerstrength.com/?page_id=3
