Having said that, I'd really like the Reds machine to maintain this new-found respect and to continue to be admired by other supporters for our results and the manner of those results. I don't want us to be hated; let's not become the Collingwood/Man United of the S15....
^^
precisely.. everyone hates Collingwood, not so much for how good the club is consistently, but the manner in which there players and fans act at times..
Im not entirely learned in the AFL language, but Geelong on the other hand has been the most succesful club in recent years but have managed to avoid the disdain of other clubs and there fans because they dont act like wankas.

Ash, I assume you will also be sending this advice re 'restrained enthusiasm' down south to the Tahs posters here....btw, did you hear JP's rather catty aside about the Reds/QLD on the last Rugby Club?
In comparison to Reds fans, NSW fans have been very subdued, regardless it shouldnt matter, if thats a path they want to persue then let them do so, no need for us Reds fans to get involved.

im a bit concerned one of the backs has Mylie Cyrus listed as his favourite musician...

Saia Fainga'a has the backstreet boys listed.

This should knock the wind out of those over enthusiastic Reds fans. Ha ha.

I just found out that both Ed Quirk and Liam Gill won the Bronze boot award. WOW!

Reds are quickly on way to becoming the most hated team in Super rugby with fans comments like that..

how about we celebrate the Reds when they actually make the finals or heaven forbid, win the super15

Haha mate, you have to open up a bit and stop being so conservative - that is the problem with rugby supporters in Australia, FACT. Nothing I say will have any impact on the way the Reds play, but what I say will hopefully show everyone else that the Reds are the best and most exciting team to support in Super rugby. Rugby needs a bit of internal promotion these days (as well as external). If Reds supporters become the most hated, so be it! At least we will be the most passionate and unstoppable.

After 6-8 years of dire rugby you should be amazed that there is any passion left. Good day sir!

Just had another little think. If the supporters don't show any blind faith and passion towards the Reds, how do you expect the players to? The Reds won those 2 games against the Bulls and Stomers because they wanted to put a show on for 30,000 Reds fans. If they knew nobody had any high expectations of them to run the ball, I doubt they would have, and they would have lost.

Yet again, mate, agree. The other critical point is this: the QRU was bankrupt by end 09. This year's Reds' performances and revitalisation have basically saved the QRU from any even deeper crisis that maybe even the ARU could not fund if things had gone on as they were. If the QRU couldn't ultimately be saved, the consequences for Oz rugby would be devastating, Reds supporter or otherwise.

Just amazing to me that, given all the above and other factors plus the desperate need for fresh enthusiasm in Oz rugby, we have posters calling for excitement-regulation and a bit of Valium before 2011, be good boys, no hype, don't offend the Tahs' supporters, hunker down and hope, things might get worse...not one poster I have seen here lately has been offensively OTT for the Reds, just passionate, just pleased fans, just exuberant!

And have you seen what the Tahs mafia within GAGR did in selecting my avatar!? Now that was OTT ;-)).

Without sounding too much of an asshole, there needs to be more hate towards NSW. When was the last time the Reds best NSW? 2004, that's when, and I was there along with 42,000 others and it was awesome! Beating the NSW filth was QLD rugbys bread and butter and it needs to be revived. Like I said earlier, if there is no banter between the fans, how do you expect the players to get up for the much if there is no expectation or faith towards them?

I'm actually more excited for next years Super 15, than the Tri-Nations coming up.

Heaven forbid mature adults display a bit of restraint

You do realise that on the field adults are bashing each other into the ground? Hardly something you sip latte and clap politely over. Oh wait, this is how NSW supporters celebrate a try :p

When I asked for a bit of 'mature adult restraint' yesterday in another place altogether - IMO in a far more legitimate context than fan madness ever is - you essentially told me in a one-liner I was writing PR dribble and to stop.

JP has been repeatedly labelled as a tool on this forum; oh, that's right, mostly by me! :)
The fevered defence of Giteau by him and Kafer gets a bit much too...

No, we cry "Rah, rah, rah" and throw our straw boaters into the air. Geez, bloody uncultured banjo-players!

+1! It's also a stupid defence. Remarkable the introversion in Oz rugby today - 'we ex-players must unite, Gits is a good bloke, and if his best days were 3 years ago, he still deserves a slot in the team as one of the/us greats'. What rubbish. And then my personal non-favourite from JP and Kearns - 'JO'N should not make any even vaguely critical or concerned remarks about the Wallabies, it should all be behind closed doors'. The old-school, blazer-wearing, private school, worst of Oz rugby. Then Kearns and Marto, in total contrast, go on to near-humiliate Burgess with shameful, undermining questions he'd never be permitted to answer. Just appalling stuff Cyclo.
